I just want to say, midwives are amazing (trigger warning ⚠️)

We had to terminate for medical reasons at 21 weeks and for whatever reason I was only offered induction, labour and delivery. Every single midwife involved with our care was amazing. Due to being high risk, we had a specialist midwife who looked after me from twelve weeks up until induction, and then the birth unit midwives took over. She helped us through a very difficult time (receiving further bad news at the 20 week scan), gave us all the information we needed to assist in making our decision without ever pushing us one way or the other, provided such amazing support and was never too busy to take a phone call or text with questions. Just amazing.

Because the induction took a while I had three different midwives over the labour and delivery, one of them twice (first and last - she checked me in and got things started, then when she came back on shift the next day we were still there so she was actually the one who delivered him). All three could not have been more helpful, caring and generally amazing. The midwife we had overnight I swear was a ninja, she got in and out of the room so damn quietly and sneakily I didn’t even wake up half the times she came in to check on me. She cleaned up my blood several times, brought me hot washcloths to wash my face with and was such a calming presence when things started to get moving a bit more. So calm and compassionate.

The first and last midwife was an angel in human form, I’m pretty sure. Delivering a stillborn child is probably the most difficult thing I’ll ever do, and without one prompt or wrong step she did every single thing exactly as I wanted and would have asked her to do. Words can’t express how grateful I am to her.

I don’t really have words to express my gratitude to these amazing women who looked after me so well.

Lots of love to you OP. I’m so glad that you had wonderfully kind midwives there for you for probably the hardest thing a mama has to go through. I hope that you continue to be surrounded by kind and compassionate people as you walk through your journey of grief. There is a great FB page called an unexpected journey that you may find some other mamas through, if you need some extra support. Thank you for sharing your gratitude xx

I read your story last night and it’s stayed with me. I’m so sorry for your loss. My mom is a midwife and has been for as long as I remember. When I was pregnant with my first I asked her what would happen if we lost the baby. I hope these next few lines bring you some comfort. Whenever her patient lost their child the baby would eventually have to leave the room. My mom would swaddle the baby and carry them herself downstairs all while praying for them and their family, singing them songs and telling the baby about their family as my mom saw the pregnancies from the beginning. She never wanted the baby to be alone or out of someone’s arms until the last moment possible. Again, I’m so sorry for the loss of your precious little one.

I'm sorry for your loss. Our little girl was born sleeping in September at 27 weeks. I didn't see my midwife often because as soon as we had bad news in week 22 we went under the care of the hospital. But when they were there, they would do anything in their power to make me feel less scared. I could come in for an ultrasound or listening with the doppler whenever I was feeling anxious and they tried to explain everything the most normal language without jargon. I'm happy these superhumans where there for you.

Also, OP, if you ever want to talk, you can laways drop me a message :)
