Mock Off-Season Thread?

It's that time of year again.. I've been having a lot of thoughts about potential free agent signings and draft picks and I'm sure you guys have too. obviously we're just fans and we can't make the decisions but it's fun to read how other people would fix the team if they could. here's what I'd do if I was Big Cock Mayock.

  • Release

  • Tahir Whitehead (not a gamechanger, might actually be bad, doesn't do anything and is not worth the money. save 6ish mil if we cut him)

  • Re-sign

  • Vontaze Burfict, Dwayne Harris, Jordan Devey, Benson Mayowa, Josh Mauro, Dion Jordan, Kyle Wilber, Deandre Washington, Jalen Richard, Isaiah Crowell, Nathan Peterman, David Sharpe (all should be very cheap if not vet min, little guaranteed which is great for depth, if you're wondering why I left out Karl Joseph and Daryl Worley it's because I'm letting them walk, I don't think they're worth second contracts)

  • Sign

  • AJ Green, Byron Jones, Darqueze Dennard, Kyle Van Noy, Robert Quinn, Jonathan Williams (I think AJ Green still has a couple elite years left in him and signing him allows us to not have to reach on a WR, it's my most important move. Byron Jones is a really good CB, he might not be a lockdown CB but he's a big upgrade over Worley. Dennard is a pretty solid slot CB who has experience with Guenther. Kyle Van Noy is a very important target as well, he's a good versatile LB who will play OLB in base but play MLB in nickel packages when we take Burfict off the field. Robert Quinn is someone who can teach Ferrell and take his game to the next level. sometimes the best way to learn is from watching someone who is good in person. Quinn, Crosby and Ferrell should be a great rotation next year with Key, Mayowa, Dion Jordan and Josh Mauro battling for depth spots. we lacked RB depth and Jonathan Williams really impressed me with his spot starts in Indy, I think he could be a good backup to Josh Jacobs for cheap.)

  • Draft

  • (1). Javon Kinlaw (BPA, I think there's a good chance Lamb and Jeudy are gone)

  • (1). Grant Delpit (a lot of mocks have him going higher, but his play fell off this season and he could fall, especially if we take Byron Jones from the Boys and make them go CB in the first.)

  • (2). Troy Dye (trade up to mid-late second and grab him. he's a very athletic LB from Oregon who along with Kyle Van Noy would solve our LB coverage problems.)

  • (3). Devin Duvernay (underrated WR from Texas, he reminds me of Golden Tate and would go higher in a less talented WR class, a good combine could push him outta this range. Renfrow and Devernay would compete for the slot job with AJG and Tyrell manning the outside in 2020.)

  • (3). Bryce Hall (talented CB who tore his ACL or else he'd be gone, with our signings we can allow him to redshirt and compete with Mullen and Dennard for a job in 2021.)

  • (4). Van Jefferson (smooth WR out of Florida who had a good senior bowl week but poor NCAA career. could be an eventual WR2 and allow us to move on from Tyrell Williams if he doesn't live up to the contract.)

  • (5). Rodridgo Blankenship (Daniel Carlson leaves a lot to be desired, Blankenship could be the future at kicker.)

  • (6). Netane Muti (Fresno St guard who is pretty talented but very injury prone, we trade up into the sixth to grab him here and see if his injuries are a thing of the past in hopes of grooming him as a Cognito replacement.)

  • Depth Chart going into camp

  • QB Derek Carr, Nathan Peterman, Deshone Kizer

  • RB Josh Jacobs, Johnathan Williams, DeAndre Washington, Jalen Richard, Isaiah Crowell

  • FB Alec Ingold

  • WR AJ Green, Tyrell Williams, Hunter Renfrow, Devin Duvernay, Dwayne Harris, Zay Jones, Van Jefferson

  • TE Darren Waller, Foster Moreau, Derek Carrier

  • LT Kolton Miller, Brandon Parker

  • LG Richie Incognito, Jordan Devy, Netane Muti

  • C Rodney Hudson, Andre James

  • RG Gabe Jackson, Denzelle Good

  • RT Trent Brown, David Sharpe

  • LE Maxx Crosby, Josh Mauro, Dion Jordan

  • DT Johnathan Hankins, Maurice Hurst

  • DT Javon Kinlaw, PJ Hall

  • RE Clelin Ferrell, Robert Quinn, Arden Key, Benson Mayowa

  • LB Vontaze Burfict, Marquel Lee, Kyle Wilber

  • LB Kyle Van Noy, Troy Dye, Nicholas Morrow

  • CB Byron Jones, Trayvon Mullen, Darqueze Dennard, Nevin Lawson, Isaiah Johnson, Bryce Hall, Keisean Nixon, Nick Nelson

  • FS Lamarcus Joyner, Grant Delpit

  • SS Johnathan Abram, Erik Harris

  • K Rodrigo Blankenship

  • P AJ Cole

  • Final Thoughts

  • I think these moves give us a complete team, a real shot at fielding both a top 10 offense and top 10 defense if AJG stays healthy, and the rest of the key offensive players, and Kinlaw, Delpit aren't busts and we see a second year jump from Ferrell and Mullen. go ahead and shit on my fantasy and feel free to share your own plan of action.

You really think we take our chances with burfict again?

after hearing the way the coaches talked about him yes. and its gonna be for a vet min type deal. and I signed a big name LB and drafted one in the second round. how is that the one thing you take away from my off-season lol. he's a low risk high reward option in this scenario. we will have a 2nd round pick as a backup plan. he might even be a TC casualty if Van Noy and Dye are named starters. but with Dye being a rookie and Burfict having tons of experience in Guenthers system, I think he could hang on as a 2 down backer.

Just something I really was wondering about. I loved what he did for us when he played, but losing him at that time hurt us so badly. I wouldn’t be against having him back, as much as i wouldn’t be against finding a different person. But i wonder how much of a factor his liability is with Mayock and Gruden.

yeah that's why I made sure to trade up for Troy Dye. I think Van Noy and Dye could be a good tandem. Dye might need to gain a little weight, it will be interesting to see how his combine goes.

As long as we finally have some depth in the LB position, we can be so much better. I hope it works out however it has to.

I’m good with dye. Rather look at jordyn brooks or Malik Harrison in the 3rd. I want all my picks. Too much talent on defense this year. 5 picks inside the top 100 is great value

I like Tez, but I don’t think he’s worth bringing back again as a player. We know the refs are going to look at any bangbang play as targeting and give him another season long suspension.

I like his chances as a linebacker coach or assistant better at this point

Gotta let Taze go. Even if he plays close to perfect at any moment you could lose him to suspension for something that wouldn't even be flagged or fined by a Chief or Patriot player.

What’s the word on Doug Martin? Did we let him go? I think I would like us to bring in a (still productive) vet like mark Ingram/Frank Gore. (As well as bringing in a young guy or bringing back Washington) I think having a vet will help Jacobs improve his game, especially in his longevity and health.

usually when a 30 year old RB is out of the NFL for a year they're done. the vet RBs I chose to sign are def better options at this point.

I'd really like to draft AJ Dillon to back up Jacobs but with the moves I made I didn't have a spot to draft a RB.

this dude's gonna be a fuckin stud. I drafted two good receivers and signed a future HOF'er who's still got a couple years left, then I signed a good LB and drafted one in the second round, one who can actually tackle unlike Kenneth Murray. whats your problem?
