It would be great if there were standardized performance options on the Xbox One X, or Series X
I know Microsoft will never enforce this, but a basic choice between a true 4k mode and a "performance" mode in all games would be fantastic.
I have a pretty good sixty inch 4K TV, with what I've read as optimal viewing angle/distance for 4K, and an Xbox One X. While I do think 4K is noticable, the power of the X1X is put to better use by making a game run at or closer to a consistent 60fps in most scenarios.
Been playing Witcher 3 on X1X, and while it's not necessarily a game that benefits from 60fps like a fighting game or FPS, the fluidity makes the world feel more alive, animations feel smoother and more realistic, combat feels better, etc. I don't think the performance mode in Witcher 3 is 1080p, but rather a variable resolution, but I would still take a 1080p 60fps over 4k 30fps if I could choose.
I know Microsoft won't implement something like a mandatory two or more option switch in games, but it would be nice to see more developers adopt this approach. Not only would it give gamers more choices, but it would benefit the vast amount of Xbox owners who still haven't gotten a 4K TV yet.

Thats on developers
It could be up to Microsoft, if they wanted to make it a requirement for XSX games going forward.
Will that happen? 0.001% chance, if that.
They're not going to require developers to do anything that Sony wouldn't, as it could create rifts and also possibly stop a few games from coming to the XSX all together.
I guess I just wish it was more common place. Outside of the Tomb Raider games and Witcher 3, I don't know a ton of Xbox One X games with a performance mode option.
Eh, it'll piss off a lot of developers.
That's what I said...
