I'm certainly no expert, but there are loads in Camden. The people who work in them are covered in tatoos as well which is always a good sign.
I would avoid Camden for tattoos. With all the tourists just popping in "to browse", the level of service has drastically declined in the last 10 years.
I got a really small tattoo on my wrist at a shop on Denmark Place, the guy was friendly, experienced and professional.
I think I paid £25 for it.
I got a larger piece done at The Family Business in Exmouth Market, Islington. Mo is a lovely guy, and their custom prices are about standard (or they were a couple of years ago).
http://frithstreettattoo.co.uk/ are pretty well revered. Not sure how much they would be up for doing something ridiculously small, but certainly worth calling and asking.
Obviously the actual size will dictate the price, 'small' is ambiguous...but either way Frith St. will probably be pretty dear, but I reckon paying for quality in something that will be with you forever is probably worth it!
A friend of mine has had a few small tats done at this place. I would HIGHLY recommend it. They do have a £60 or so minimum, but the artists are friendly, interested, engaging and most importantly, ridiculously good. You will not find this level of service in Camden - be warned!
Alternatively, another friend had one done at this place and it looks excellent but I don't know who the artist was.
£60 is very good for a minimum - it's usually £80-£100 an hour, most places I've seen.
