"Sorry guys, it's my first turntable, all I can afford right now"

spends $55 on one record

bohner941•

One of my biggest pet peeves.. I saw some one with. 200 dollar record talking about how all they could afford right now was a crosley..

5
tmlblOP•

Was that the guy playing Hit Vibes (very rare future funk release)? I think that one can go for up to 400. Died a little inside when I saw that

5
bohner941•

Yep

thehammer27•

OP said it skips in the comments too. Could be the record, could be the turntable - either way, they overpaid.

The sad thing is, you can't say anything about people overpaying for common records on that sub. Someone posted their Star Wars soundtrack last week and said they paid less than $30. I just pointed out that Discogs median was $15 and said I hope they didn't pay close to $30, but people called me an elitist or said I was being negative.

so-very-very-tired•

It has gotten truly ridiculous. I can't tell if they're proud they spent so much or so naive that they spent so much. In either case, why tell us the price to begin with?

27
dragonballissocool•

Cause they feel they have to justify this dumb shit somehow

15
Level69Troll•

I walk around stores scanning the barcodes when I'm interested. If discogs has a similar price, or same price I'll just buy it from the store. You really have the best tool for information and fair price directly in your hand, and if a store wants to charge twice the price, you can go somewhere else.

21
PiroPR•

I do the same, but does Discogs lets you scan the barcodes? If not, what app let’s you do so?

0
Level69Troll•

Discogs app.

thehammer27•

They do. When you hit search, it should be the button in the top right next to the search bar.

Well I could sell it for that much on Ebay or Whatever

"So sell it there. If you want it, I've got cash today."

Usually that changes their tune.

Wow, it’s strange why I get annoyed. This post really grinds me gears. But it’s just someone who wants to enjoy music, however they are doing everything wrong and need some advice. So many newbie mistakes. Feel like helping him out here.

cloudthresher•

I think what's annoying about it is that these people are on r/vinyl, which, while full of garbage, also has some decently good advice every so often. But instead of lurking for a bit and reading up on good beginner turntables and what to avoid, they just use the sub as a trophy case for their regrettable purchases and stay ignorant of any advice they might have otherwise gotten.

28
CJE93•

It feels wrong to judge too harshly. However, if you’re just starting out, do some research and save the reddit post for when you actually have something worthwhile to post.

15
tmlblOP•

Yeah if I'm trying to get in to a hobby I lurk and do my research before making purchases or giving my opinion on anything. For some reason with vinyl people think that they don't have to do this, and deserve to be lauded for simply taking an interest at all. It comes off as disrespectful to people who actually like this stuff, tbh

PlantsArePeaceful•

My favorite thing is the price tags from his grailz on the dust cover (or maybe lid is the right word?) so people know how much he’s got invested in his humble collection.

21
fowlerzach•

I didn’t even see that but it’s hilarious

4
cloudthresher•

Holy crap, "It has some skips, but we will see how many are left after it's played a few times." WHAT

19
livesinafield•

If it can't find a groove, it'll make one

18
Some_Random_Cunt_Crosbleby•

It won't be pristine for much longer then

7

I wonder if everyone on the comment thread over in that other sub was just overlooking the fact that you always dust off and wipe a new record because of factory / jacket dust that can cause this? Or had a dirty stylus from playing DSOTM grailz so hard? Either way theres still a good time to be had reading the comments!

/uj anyone want to bet when vwestlife will post BS on that thread?

EDIT: aaaaaaaand he post his usual canned BS advice

16
thehammer27•

Whenever there's a post like this, it's only a matter of time before the lord and savior of Crosby grail spinners shows up.

7
ferr1cyanidethe real moderator at /r/vinyl•

/uj all he cares about is money and popularity. trying to sucker people into his videos with ad-sense and receiving kickbacks from Corsbeleye and audio technica

Lucky you, I never find albums people actually want to own (not even rare ones) under 20-30€ NM on Discogs or in Record Stores, though I dont go digging in Thrift Stores, maybe theres some worthwhile stuff there

1
LetThisNameBeFree•

Facebook marketplace is a better place to buy second hand records than you think

1
mawnckhoarder of plastic circles in cardboard squares•

Depends where you are. It's nothing but delusional people trying to sell water-damaged Marshall Tucker Band albums for $60 around here.

5
Eightcoins8Kanye Bootlegs Nailed To Wall•

I had some lucks if a band had no fans in Germany on German Ebay.

I got Big Black - Headache/Heartbeat (Uncensored 1st) for 41€ in Around NM/VG+ on Ebay with all extras, on discogs its 95€+ with all extras

0
LetThisNameBeFree•

I live in Hungary, where nobody used a turntable after 1992, so there are no newer records. But every vinyl is dirt cheap. I usually don't spend more than $4 worth of money on one. Once I bought a VG first pressing Sgt Pepper's for 30 cents because the seller didn't recognised the band.

1
sogor_solyom•

I feel bad for the guy, because everyone’s shitting on him, but man... Nothing pissed me of this much as this post in a long time.

5
Drunk2Society•

It has some skips, but we will see how many are left after it's played a few times.

Now I'm not an expert, but I'm pretty sure that's not how it works.

5

I’m screaming rn

2
bradjones1994•

When I see a monstrosity such as this TT I have to find a picture of my Technics SL-1200 just to go back to normal 😂.

If one thing triggers me it’s the sight of Crosley Crusiers and the damn red cartridges.
