Readers of Reddit, what are some of your favorite books or book series that had a terrible or highly inaccurate movie adaptation?

Dune. The book was fantastic, but the movie did not do it justice at all. I hope the new one coming out is better.

My personal favorites that were ruined are The Eragon series Cirque du Freak The Dark Tower series

The film version of The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco that starred Sean Connery. I haven't seen the miniseries, so I don't know if it's better, but it's difficult to see how it could be worse.

The Tom ward series, the movie (the seventh son) was terrible. The only thing they had right we're the names of characters and places.
