They just started jackhammering directly outside my apartment at 1 AM. I call the police, and it was approved by the city, they will be working until 5 in the morning for the next 3 days...

Ok. Try this. Call the police and tell them the construction crew out front is actuallya bunch of college kids playing a prank. Then go over to the construction crew and tell them a bunch of college kids dressed as cops are on their way to fuck with them. If you can't sleep you might as well be entertained.

Hello real cops?

or you know... grow the fuck up, realize you're not the center of the universe and buy some damned ear plugs and let the rest of society get on with doing what its supposed to.

if the city approved it to be done at this time of night, believe it or not theres probably a good reason for it.

You sound a little tired and cranky...is there a construction crew jackhammering outside your place at 1 am as well? If so, try this. Call the police and tell them the construction crew out front is actually a bunch of college kids playing a prank. Then go over to the construction crew and tell them a bunch of college kids dressed as cops are on their way to fuck with them. If you can't sleep you might as well be entertained.

Been camping lately? There are always options..

2

Right. It might actually just be a good time to take my bike out or something

That's the spirit, enjoy what is.

3
0pendOP•

Well shit tomorrow yes. But tonight at now 2 am is a little late

3
klara_shanielle•

Oh right. I guess you can just wait now and find a place to sleep for the next night.

Let's be realistic here - those potholes aren't going to install themselves.

Sorry, but hysterical.

Trying... Trying....

Volesprit31•

It happened to me once, lasted 2 weeks. When I was day shift I had this, and when I was night shift the construction in front of my windows was going well, full blast. It was a nightmare.

2
0pendOP•

It just kept going. Went from jackhammering to them pulling out a circular saw and cutting the tube and everything else. It was ridiculous..I am so tired today

2
Clownbrownies•

Thats a lot of street traffic for 1 am

2
0pendOP•

College city. Always tons of traffic

Tocon_Noot_Gaming•

What country is this in?

In Australia they aren’t too bad and try to not make much of an inconvenience for you. Just my experience

2
reddit455•

...noise at night?

...no water/gas for the day?

..i have woken up to no water due to water main break.

1
0pendOP•

USA.

1
reddit455•

the "demolition" part is done once.

filling the ditch isn't as bad.

... those look like water department trucks.

the alternative would be no water "during business hours"

2
carguy82j•

It might suck, but its probably emergency repairs possibly for your electricity, water, gas or sewer. I would rather have them spend all night fixing it then have one of those missing for a few days or possibly a fire. Like others have said, "First world problems"

1
0pendOP•

That is exactly what it is. But I would imagine third world countries also have construction at night. So saying first world problems just doesnt sound right

7
0pendOP•

My favorite part from the whole thing was the damn guy hammering away with a normal hammer at the truck on top of the jackhammer

1
mad-un•

Well, on Friday and Saturday night you should be out having having fun anyway. Thursday is the new Friday so you should've been out then too

-5
pink_ampharos•

Why the fuck would you call the cops because of construction??

-6
0pendOP•

Because who the hell else do you call? The mayor? The news? The paper? No. I called the one place that could confirm or deny whether they are supposed to be doing what they are doing. Cop was more than happy to help

10
Batbuckleyourpants•

Ghost busters!

6
ImBob_S_N_Vagenes•

Well there's always a chance they were privately contracted and don't have a permit, just following client orders to do it at night.

6
pink_ampharos•

I couldn’t imagine trying to justify calling the police on people literally at work, doing their job. Morally disgusting.

-14
ImBob_S_N_Vagenes•

But what if they are breaking the law doing the work, say, working well after city ordinance hours without a permit? Worth checking.

7
pink_ampharos•

Breaking the law has never directly correlated as doing something wrong. You’re still advocating for the police to come harass someone while they’re working. I guarantee you it takes less effort and op would get more sleep by minding his own fucking business.

-16
chavo414•

wow, tough crowd here...you'd be surprised that some construction companies would work at night without a permit to do so. why? you're asking yourself...likely because they are trying to make a bonus deadline...not a completion deadline, but a date where the company gets a large bonus for completing the work before the actual deadline. Companies are known for doing this and a police officer isn't going to stop by to check their permits, so a call to the police department to check on the construction activities is not as morally disgusting as you think. The construction company could be illegally working at night and during the day without proper permits and then the morally disgusting portion truly comes into play...the work they're doing for the city and now have completed ahead of schedule illegally will now be paid an exorbitant amount of taxpayers dollars for their bonus.

4
Drak_is_Right•

Other times, night work is approved. I remember when an important ramp in the bay area for one of the bridges collapsed due to a tanker fire. A company worked 24/7 and got it fixed in a month, earning a major bonus. had been like a 3 month contract.

2
pink_ampharos•

“I called the cops on you because I’m mediocrely versed in a city ordinance and pretty sure you’re annoying me” like.. is not a good take.

-2
mr-no-homo•

Why TF would you think the police, of all people would be able to do anything? The cant. Talk about first world problem

-14
0pendOP•

Looked it up. The city next to me has an after hours construction complaint hotline. Mine doesnt.

3
DoxProofBro•

You sound like you’re proud of being an ass: “They just started jackhammering at 1am. I call the police”

It’s hard to imagine a more official tool than a jackhammer. Wtf did you think was going on??? Did you honestly believe someone would try to jackhammer at night without permission. How exactly would someone jackhammer while keeping a low-profile?? It’s literally impossible to get away with this hypothetical malfeasance.

What a total Karen.

-17
0pendOP•

What? A karen would go balls to the wall screaming and yelling at them. I didnt call the police on them..I called the police to see what was up. And they told me
