Reddit, I will be moving to the bay area this June, where should I live?

I found a job and will be moving after I finish college to the bay area (Palo Alto) this June. I am not sure where to search for apartments. I have been told that Palo Alto is very expensive and I should not live there, however, I am not sure which city near Palo Alto I should start looking for apartments in. I was also told that some areas are cheap but I should not live there either, east Palo Alto was an example. Thanks for the help!!
