Looking for artist to pitch Creators for Creators's $30,000 grant for new comics creators
Please read carefully, sorry for info-dumping!
Hello! I'm a writer looking for an artist to apply for the Creators for Creators Grant. Creators for Creators is a non-profit that helps new comics creators through funding and mentorship.
They offer a $30,000 grant, mentorship in every aspect of making comics (creative, business, legal, etc), and guaranteed, optional publishing with either Image or Iron Circus. C4C determines how the grant is split between contributors.
As a team we submit a pitch for a 64-100 page story (two page outline; I'll do this), a five page sequential example from the story (you'll do this), plus short creator bios from each of us.
C4C is only open to unpublished creators. Anthologies and self-published are fine, but nothing through a publisher.
I've been working on a story loosely for well over a year, and much more vigorously in the last several months. Currently it's outlined, broken into four issues with some page breakdowns, but not scripted yet.
Misfire is a sci-fi comic set on an alien planet with lush plant-life. Humans are losing a war far away, and the inhabitants of this planet are the key to new smart weapons that could turn the tide. When two alien children get hold of the first of these smart weapons, made from parts harvested from their mother, the three of them become their people's only hope of survival.
I'm looking for an artist who can do both futuristic military tech and alien flora, as well as a HUD for some panels. Feel free to ask me more about the story. It's projected at 4 issues and ~88-100 pages.
A little about me. I've been published in two anthologies. I did an editorial internship at a comics publisher. I studied comics in college alongside my degree. I'm serious about making good comics!
If you're interested send me a link to your portfolio, preferably with sequential examples! This is a long-term project. The deadline to apply is May 11, and they announce the winners in July. We have a year to create the comic, so make sure you can fit that workload.
Let's win this and make a great debut! (:
