Should people be more open to an in season tournament now after seeing the success of the new format of the ASG?

The initial reaction to the new format of the ASG on this subreddit was majority of people hating on it because people usually have the "if it isn't broken don't fix it" mentality.

I think everyone should give the in season tournament idea a chance for one season to see how successful it would be, I would like to see other opinions on this.

Gem.

For sure, this just showed players are willing to play hard for non-playoff/regular season games.

That's what makes the score reset so good

I will never doubt Adam Silver again. He has free reign to do whatever

It was more Chris Paul. He brought the idea out. but Silver does deserve some praise for listening and agreeing upon it

In-season tournament? Would this be like in football (soccer), where each league has league games, but also cup games?

That's actually interesting and something I hadn't considered, an FA CUP type Tourney between all 32 teams through the whole year, one cup game a week? Or every 3 weeks for scheduling stuff. Reduce the number of games since winning a game rewards you with an extra game, this way load management can be reduced too.

I was thinking more of NCAA type preseason tourneys, like battle for Atlantis, big 12 acc challenge or whatever, thers tons. It would be an invitational type tourney in places the NBA is not in right now or less popular. This way it's only 2 or 3 games for a team extra if they do well

32 teams? Yeah we may aswell invite Seattle and Vancouver aswell

I mean tonight doesn't really say anything about the actual pros/cons of an in-season tournament beyond "sometimes new formats for things turn out good."

Give it a chance. Might be too much to have it every year but doing it every 4 years would be cool

Put money on the line and players will play hard

I want an end of the season tournament. 7 game series of the 2 best teams assembled with an incentive so they go hard. Like yeah the nba finals are cool but imagine the best of the best all out there together going at it

Only if there's no playoff implications, and still then I'm skeptical

No top players are actually going to care. No one is gonna go all out to win. What happens if you win? Cool congrats bro. You got this new made up trophy that no one was really trying for. Now let's get on with the rest of the season and the trophy that everyone is really gonna try to win. It's really that simple. So matter what logic you guys try to use to make a midseason tournament a thing...it will always come down to this in the end.

I mean nobody's supposed to care about the ASG either but they went all out

For one quarter. A big part of this is because of the whole Kobe thing too. That isn't going to last year in and year out.

I don’t understand the pushback from fans, it’s utterly baffling.I can understand why teams/owners might be against it. But the casual fans stridently arguing that it’s “stupid” makes me want to bang my head against the wall. I feel like people hear the media talk negatively about it and blindly adopt the same talking points. Why would any fan be against a new format of exciting, highly competitive games?

I think everyone is down for it.

Its the risk/reward scale that has to be considered. Any possible injuries?
