I liked Watkins Story about " Tennessee Thompkins". He was a tall lanky guy in his company who by Watkin's description had a " Skrillex" type of haircut and would always carry a lot of stuff on the march.
He boasted about how fast he could run and ended up being challenged to a foot race of about 50 yards.
Thompkins made a big show of pacing off the course, stretching and hopping up and down and huffing and puffing like a bull.
When they lined up and raced the other guy smoked him by a good 15 yards and Thompkins came puffing across the line, held his side and paced around trying to catch his wind.
He finally stood up straight, looked around and said " Bully for Bragg,,, he's hell on retreat.."
