Notifications are working, but messages app is not syncing with phone.
So I just gave my old Gear S2 to a friend and I just connected it to their Trac phone. Everything seems to be working and syncing fine except for messages. The phone numbers and contacts have synced to the watch. But for some reason text messages have not. Even new ones. They are getting notifications for new incoming messages. But once they are cleared, they don't show up in the messages app on the watch.
Anyone got any ideas?

If it's not Samsung phone it will not store messages to the watch. I am guessing that's the issue that you are referring to.
Yea that must be the case. He has an Alcatel phone. The watch also seems to have some connectivity issues where it dissconnects about every 20 min or so. I'm sure the messages sync problem is due to non-samsung phone and the connectivity has to do with the Gear S plug-in. I'm sure eventually an update will come for the plug-in but he'll have to deal with the messages sync. Thanks.
