How low can I go in the snow?

Modding Talk

Hi all,

Bought a used MK6 a few weeks ago. Looking to use it to get to the local mountains cuz I'm a shredder now and I'm also looking to lower it a bit. Partially inspired by this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/GolfGTI/comments/esdeyb/tested_out_the_new_ski_carrier/

Anyone have examples of other lowered cars in the snow? How low can you go before it becomes a liability?

Thanks

Not a VI, but a VII.

Only on lowering springs at the moment for a moderate 1" drop. Was putting around in 1-3" of snow just fine.

As long as the snow is somewhat fresh & soft. You will be fine. You will just have to worry about making a snow wedge as your bumper will become a snowplow. Like what my MKV does. Which is lowered on an H&R Sport Cup Kit. Almost the same overall clearance as my VII.

As long as you have correct tires, and not slammed. You should be fine.

Ok this gives me confidence. Thanks for the photos. First pic is sick btw. What suspension are you running on the MK7?

And yeah I've got a set of Michelin X-Ice's that I'll throw on for any snow activities.

Just Eibach Pro Kit springs at the moment. Car came with them when I bought it (2nd owner).

I'm looking into good options for shocks to pair with these springs, or if I should just re-do it all. I wanna keep the same height, just not be on stock shocks & struts.

I've bottomed out twice in the snow on my stock height mk7 and had to get pulled out.

oof that's not what I want to hear. I have driven my stock mk4 around in the slush though and it was manageable.

it is, im just saying these cars dont have much ground clearance to begin with. with snow tires the car goes through nearly anything. but if its too deep the car beaches itself
