Beautiful borders for Mongolia! One question: since the Kazakh Dzungaria is already part of Kazakhstan, would East Turkestan better be called Uyghurstan?

Oh damn I was meaning to change that, but forgot. good pointing out. It was that or Altishahr.

(Also I did the Mongolian borders on impulse without much thought and they're by far the least realistic thing here. Mongolia's just annexed a region with almost ten times the population, most of which don't have much relation to Mongolia at all)

f_o_t_a_•

That explains why you didn't include all of inner Mongolia

17
stippen4life•

But they do have mongolian relations

8
roundedDownOP•

The majority Han population? I don't really know much about the region honestly. I'd do more research if I remade it.

2
stippen4life•

Most of the area you put into mongolia were inner mongolian land. The northern land is manchurian which had long ties with mongolia even before conquering china and mongolia both around the 17th century, so they might choose to unite with mongolia rather than be an even smaller minority in china

5

Nowadays Inner Mongolia as a whole has a majority Han population, but it was also historically Mongol judging from the names of villages and towns

1
Kiririn-shi•

Can easily be explained by an Inner Mongolia whose nobles decided to declare independence in 1911 like Outer Mongolia.

3
ArmyOfMemes•

It would really be better if it was called Yarkand.

This isn't based on some grander lore but I'll explain a little bit of my thought process. Essentially this is the product of a socialist-aligned Germany from the Soviet revolution onward allowing the Soviets to focus militarily in Central Asia. This would also mean less Russification / resettlement policies possibly allowing for a stronger central Asian identity. After the Soviets beat Japan out of mainland Asia, Mongolia and East Turkestan are occupied by Russia, but declare independence with the other central Asian states after the dissolution of the Soviet Union.

Germany is revisionist by this period, and once again has private ownership, but has suffered no traumatic breakup like the Soviets.

China is republican, following Soviet investment into the Republican war effort against Japan.

In the 2000s, the war is waged by the Russian-assisted Kazakhs, seeking to hold control of their former territories, and a wide range of socialists, nationalists, Islamists, and liberals in guerilla warfare. By 2010 most of the region is in ceasefire, with a few terrorist groups still in operation. The US and Russia both have significant military presence, and the region is divided into blocs of allegiance.

By 2020, most of the rebel groups have been pushed back, and the emerging nation-states of Central Asia can finally begin to recover, and live side by side peacefully.

Wait so ROC stay in mainland China in this timeline? Will Korean war,Vietnam war still occur and assumption stuff would be interesting

7
PotentBeverage•

I think the wars would still occur, but the communists would be heavily outnumbered since China wouldn't help.

Communist Korea would probably fall. Vietnam, though...

4
A6M_Zero•

Difficult to say; if the Soviets were the ones pushing Japan out of the mainland then it's unlikely there would be a South Korea and the whole of Korea would be handed to a pro-Soviet government.

rusty-the-finger•

How does that Caucasian situation pan out?

2

Oh wait I realized it was just inner+Outer Mongolia lol Still there are more mongols in Inner Mongolia than actual mongolia *Sad Kublai noises

It's weird that the Federation does not include Tuva. And Buryatia, I suppose.

Astana shouldn't be named Astana ('Capital') in this world. Most likely its name should be Aqmola.

roundedDownOP•

I’d like to “fix” this at some point in the fiuture with some more realism as I rushed some of the details without putting much thought in, before getting attached to the scenario

5
literally_himmler1•

Overall pretty good, Mongolia is a little bit of a stretch but it doesn't ruin it or anything, still kind of makes sense. however, Afghanistan being in this is just weird. why would they be a part of this federation?

5
roundedDownOP•

Afghan was incorporated into the Soviet Union at some point and upon Soviet collapse it went the same fate as other central asian countries. But I don’t know the specifics

And Karakalpakstan?

Love the city of Gay in Kazakhstan

Nice map, however, shouldn't Kalmukia be Kalmykia?

Still landlocked

3
USstateOfOhaiyo•

since this is squished between Russia and China, is this essentially Asian Poland?

Irakli_32•

Since you included gorno-altaisk, why didn’t you include Altai Republic? And Gorno-Badakhshan and taxkorghan is inhabited by pamiris so i think that instead of Tajikistan you could’ve named it Pamiristan or something else.

Pamiris

The Pamiris (Dari: پامیری‎; Tajik: помирӣ) are an Iranian ethnic group who are native to the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region of eastern Tajikistan, the Badakhshan Province of northeastern Afghanistan and the Taxkorgan Tajik Autonomous County in Xinjiang, China.

Love that you included Kalmykia. Such a weird and interesting place. East Asian looking Buddhists living in Europe and barely anybody knows about it!
