You guys seemed to like my Kelermorphs so I figured I'd show off my Patriarch. He is a better example of how my bases can turn out when there are objects to "infest"

My second painted model in my Tyranid scheme based on the bald faced hornet. He doesn't really convey that effect as well as my nids but he is a nice bridge between them and the GSC.

For those interested in my basing method I will try to make up a tutorial in the next week or so.

Bald faced hornets are terrifying and so is Patriarch. Great work, OP!

Very unique color scheme.I especially like the black to white blending on the horns and talons. It's not similar to my color scheme, but I may try to appropriate the blending of the base coat into the first layer of the talons on my own models and see how it plays out.

The one criticism / suggestion I have is that I would go for a highlight or something of that nature on the brain, eyes, and tongue to distinguish it in some way. Maybe a yellow / orange. I think I understand why you've elected not to with the uniform coloring, but I still think it would come out well.

Your basing is also very cool looking. I have dabbled with some infestation basing for my nids, but my GSC are basically all tech based so it doesn't justify as well.

Mind sharing your technique?

I get where you're coming from but you are correct that the color choice was deliberate. My ultimate goal with this scheme was to try to match that black and white look of the bald faced hornet. Even the slight brown coloring on the flesh is an attempt to mimic their limbs.

I do agree that sometimes you need that extra bit of contrast and I did that for the other GSC models I've painted but in this particular case I wanted him to look more like the rest of my tyranids.

The only colors I am using for them (tyranids) are zandri dust, ushabti bone, screaming skull, and black. The only shades are nuln oil and seraphim sepia. With the actual GSC models I added in other earth tone colors to add more variety to their clothing.

The basing is justa layer Elmer's school glue with a layer thin super glue over top. As it dries it creates the random ridges. With objects on the base you can use a toothpick (or similar) to stretch the glue mix over things before it dries too much. It's mostly random but looks great if done right.
