My gpu only OCs 100 megahertz until my video freezes.

Help Request - GPU

Hello Any time I try to overclock my gtx 1060 it only goes 100 mghz over boost until my video output freezes. The advertised overclocking capabilities were 300 mghz past boost. Is there any way to prevent my video output from freezing on my gpu while still overclocking it more.

DZCreeperBoldly going nowhere with ambient cooling,•

The offset value is meaningless, all that matters is the actual clock speed under load. If your card lands in the 2000-2100MHz range that is totally normal for Pascal. If you have poor cooling it might be as low as 1950MHz.

Ok thank you that answers my question it is usually at 2000 under load so I guess I’m fine

What would the oc look like on a Turing based card if I was gonna upgrade in the future

Turing cards clock slightly higher on average, 25-50MHz more.

Being a newer gen, they of course are faster per clock.

Turing clocks a bit higher on average but it still comes down to the card man. Some can clock to the sky and others can still barely hit over 2GHz daily. My GTX 1080 will do 2100 @ just over a 1.0V while an RTX 2070 Super I just put in a system couldn't even stabilize that at maximum voltage. Without paying for the really high end cards, your best bet is to get a Founder's Edition for a better chance at decent overclocking but nothing is a guarantee.

You can prolly get that 1080 past 2100. My watercooled 1080ti goes up to 2113 before bricking the drivers and 1080s are known to clock way higher than their ti brothers

Oh I bench it much higher, I was just giving him an example. It's a F.E. so with those power limits holding 2100 @ ~1.0V is rock solid in most workloads. Before water cooling, this was pretty much the sweet spot and is still often what I run daily.

I've hit up 2190 while benching. I briefly experimented with the XOC bios but it doesn't behave with the F.E., at least not with ambient cooling. I've been testing other cards lately but when I have some time I'm planning on trying the Palit 276W bios which I think will allow me to break 2200 while keeping the memory clock up.

Advertised where?

As Roddy rich would say “the box”

What Box tells you that? I dont think any manufacturers tell you that their cards can be overclocked like you describe. They advertise boostclocks and thats it.
