Sonic the Hedgehog fan film from 2013, with James

Discussion

I didn't see the Februcarrey or wtf it was called review ScreenWave did on the new Sonic movie with Jim Carrey. But, if they didn't mention it, James did a cameo in an old fan movie from 2013:

James writes:
Check out this Sonic the Hedgehog fan film produced by Blue Core Studios and directed by Eddie Lebron (the team that brought you the “MegaMan” fan film). This shows a lot of dedication! Today, the old video game franchises don’t seem to get a lot of cinematic recognition. For example, we’ll probably never see Nintendo take another chance with a new Super Mario Bros movie. That kind of thing doesn’t happen anymore, but I believe the video games of the past can be made into great movies, if given the care and attention. For now, it’s up to fans with motivation like this, to show what the possibilities are, and maybe the movie industry will take the hint. Also, I have a cameo, along with friends you’ll recognize.

Along with some of the retro game enthusiasts James mentioned, it also features Jaleel White as Sonic. It's pretty good for a fan project I must say, don't know why the rating on IMDB is so damn harsh, like chill.

The rating is low, because they hyped this thing to death back in the day, like it's gonna be this amazing movie which finally does justice to the character etc. If I remember right there was talk of it being feature-length at first. And then after literally years of promotion and anticipation it comes out and it's this 20 minute internet celebrity showcase with a few scenes of average CGI Sonic jumping on some robots. Pretty much everyone was disappointed and we all forgot about it the next day.

Oh, and Robotnik was a wasted potential, since unlike all the random youtubers, he was actually a good actor who looked and sounded the part, but ended up being severely underused.

Never heard James talk about it, what's his take?

Personally, I've no idea what to expect. It's Illumination, so on one hand it might be a soulless cashgrab with goombas becoming the next minions, but at the same time, the original 'Despicable Me' wasn't that bad on its own.
