Calling it now, after trading away Marleau, Dillon, and Goodreau, Sharks are gonna come from behind to win it all. Gonna play the Pens in the final, so the only way to get Thornton a cup is by denying one for Marleau. High drama.

Sharks go up 0.01 percent with each win but if we win all 16 remaining supposedly our chances to make playoffs are 95+ percent so not sure at what point a win becomes like plus 40% chance to make playoffs lol.

the probabilities are like a bell curve. when you are near the middle - 40-60% then each game can swing you 20% or so depending on how late in the season it is.
when you approach the top or bottom the probability changes get much smaller.

What's crazy to me is that we're only 3 wins behind the yotes with a game in hand. What's really killing us is having the lowest number of loser points in the league (tied with the rangers)

There was an article on NHL.com about this—centered around the Rangers because they’re actually in the hunt—but they talked about the wacky format the NHL has where all games are not equal in points and the subsequent incentive to play for overtime rather than a regulation win. If the Rangers miss, it will largely be because they haven’t played “safe” enough, and have a low number of loser points as a consequence. The only teams even worse than them in this department are us and the wings.

It seems perverse, but winning the draft lottery is the best thing for the Sharks, because it means Ottawa ends up with LaFrenniere or however you spell it, rather than the Ducks or Kings. And if he's in Ottawa, that means he'll be an RFA in 4 years and the Senators will trade him for a 3rd round pick at the deadline.
