£1000 Gaming PC - first pass

Build Help

What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better.

Mainly gaming, also some hobby 3D game development. General home use too.

If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, framerate, game settings)

F1 2019, Witcher 3, 1080p 60fps on high settings would be fine. I'd be happy if I can still get that on a modern game in 3-5 years or so (with lower settings) but I'm not really sure how likely that is.

What is your budget (ballpark is okay)?

£1000.

In what country are you purchasing your parts?

UK.

Post a draft of your potential build here (specific parts please).

I already have a 1TB SSD I bought a year ago, so I'm not including that in the price/build.

Provide any additional details you wish below.

I already have a 1TB SSD I bought a year ago, so I'm not including that in the price/build.

This is loosely based on the logical increments guide, with a few tweaks from my own research. I'd prefer a Micro ATX. I don't need Wifi. I really couldn't care less about what the case looks like - I'm really looking for a functional, cheap case with good air flow. £1000 was a budget I pulled mostly out of thin air - if I can get a lot of the same quality for less, I'm open to that too.

Some questions I had:

  • R5 3600X vs R7 3700X? Is the 3700X worth an extra £75ish? I've got a little bit of wiggle room in the budget, but I'm not sure if this is the best use of that
  • Am I okay without an aftermarket fan? I'm likely not going to be delving into overclocking.
  • I let PcPartPicker pick the RAM. It seems it's good - is 3200 overkill, or is it worth a few extra pounds?
  • I had a quick look at MiniATX builds, but I wasn't sure how viable they were. I like the idea of a much smaller form factor, but I don't know how much hassle they are.
  • This is probably a very nooby question - my power supply says it's ATX. I had a Google and it seems like that will fit a MicroATX case, but just want to confirm!

Thanks!
