I'm going to find out how hard is it to advance a new account

Discussion

I see a lot of players who claim to have never spent a dime on the game. Most were probably around for beta and got a head start that way.

In any case, I'm going to start a brand new account and see for myself how hard it is to advance. I know that the new campaign structure makes it easy to get to level 20 in about a day, but that would mean the toons will probably be seriously under-tuned, so I'm going to go a bit slower than that.

No in-app purchases or Tapjoy offers that require a purchase or trial are allowed. Tapjoy offers that don't require either of those are okay.

I'll update as I go along.

I liked this game when I first started playing, then over the course of a few months they changed the game from fun to all about $$$.

The thing is I spend money in games. When I first started I felt I was getting a descent return on my investment. Then about 3 months ago each event was costing me like $60 to get the event toon. (Energy refills, wheel spins, etc.)

Sure they threw us a bone for the BKS event - every couple events seem like a gimme where you can get the champ kind of easy but overall the game just became pay to win, and they’re not even shy about it.

I quit about 2 months ago, and have been watching the sub, hoping things might change, even went as far as logging in for about a week when they changed a few things like energy going from 50 to 100.

But then they did back handed shit to recoup what they “gave” you.

I counted 26 paid offers in the store about a month ago...

26!

I got an alert telling me that I hadn’t logged in for awhile, and that there was a gift in the store for me, that’s when I decided to uninstall. The games a complete waste of time if you’re F2P, unless you really enjoy super slow progress.

This list below I assembled back in December, and I’m sure there plenty more that can be added to it now.

They’ve increased all special events to 10e per battle. They dropped it back down for the lower stages after everyone was outraged. Removed event currency from first victory. Decreased the amount of toons received in special event. Removed fine materials from event reatomizer. Decreased times received from event currency crates. Removed chance of getting E from currency crates and event reatomizer.

Now they offer a mega energy pack for sale to milk you for $9.99.

Now require a 4* rare toon to unlock the 3rd stage, a toon that is pretty much garbage.

I wanna read this as you go forward, but I bet youre gonna lose sanity in under 3 month, or start buying offers regularly. And also, its not that its just beta players who havent spent any money, like i am european(the game wasnt released here back then) and, honestly, without the headstart of dumb luck with hitting jackpot OG bugs i would be done about the start of arena.

This will be interesting. There have been a lot of changes in the game since I started, making me curious just how hard it is for new f2p players to advance these days. For one thing, I started being able to get the event toon in every event about 3 months in, which is something I don't think a 3 month player can do now (Ever since Carrotblanca I've struggled to get event toons even now and have failed to activate 3 legendaries). And before the recent update the space and summit campaigns were generous with illudium. But you say it's easier to level up, at least at first, now and maybe there are some other changes that benefit newbies that I haven't noticed, so...

I've done that myself. The game gives Bugs, Scout Foghorn, Fishercat, and Scout Sylvester (after battle 1). At level 10, you can unlock Scout Granny on the scout event. You end up hitting the wall late in Act 2. Then it's a long grind to power up your toons. Spending Illudium on the Nuclear Reatomizer gets you junk common pieces and a few pieces for better toons.

If you don't spend anything, my advice is to do Tapjoy offers and the toon-pieces gem event at level 10, and save your gems until you have 1,300. Then buy the 10 golden ticket offer with the gems ---- and hope you get lucky on the Mega Wheel. Otherwise you'll be checking in many times a day and grinding away.

The game is a grind session even if you spend. Trying to do it the hard way is probalby possible, but it will take a LOT longer than it used to, mainly because of the abundance of new (and useless) toons, and it's a lot like a job.

It's 5 gold tickets at 1300 gems :)

2
HallMaster2221•

It's 10 for a new player the first few days.

Well, I'll be damned

When I tried the recent Beta, it was cool for about a week and then I hit a hard wall. I think the person starting today is twice as screwed with the way illudium and toons are being handed out, the luster loses itself fast. I wish you luck! (edit for spelling)

I’m F2P and didn’t started in beta, but a few days after global release.

To be honest the big difference is that before there wasn’t any toon that I think I couldn’t unlock, even if I didn’t in the first event, I knew that I would eventually. But Epic Toons make people feels like they will never unlock them without spend money. But I don’t think this affect only Beginners. I feel the same.

The only thing that maybe makes things harder for beginners today is that there are much more toons now. But I don’t think it’s harder to get stuffs or pieces now, than when I started. Now we can get much more pieces from campaign, and build a good main team. Plus it was way harder to get superior materials, boosters or R&D material. But I think we had better events milestones rewards before.

I started a new game a couple weeks ago. Don't even bother with events. I just ignore them and play for mega spins. I think my A team is up to like 12k? Definitely hit a wall in the campaign last week. Just got Daffy Hood this weekend but haven't started working on him as my other attackers are higher ranks

Oh and my granny event broke when I dinged level 20 so I didn't even get to finish it. Most frustrating thing besides I think it turns out bard is not in the wheel anymore? Annoyed I won't be able to get him

I have been playing since Beta. I'm not free to play, but I don't spend a lot maybe a few hundred altogether. I login everyday, collect all rewards, do all the freebie things that you can, use all energy, keep my chests full, etc. I have two toons that are maxed out, in almost two years. This is a long, long, long grind if you're not paying.

I'll be interested to hear how you find it. It's a good 14-15 months since I started playing, and still find I can barely get toons from most of these recent events. I'm tending towards just not chasing them now, and just use the events to get pieces of toons I already have. At this stage, trying to focus on improving a few toons seems a better idea than adding yet more to the over a hundred I have. That's not really going to work on a new account though, so will be interested to hear how frustrating it is.

I started the game about 4 to 5 months ago. I haven’t spent a dime and didn’t get any of the tapjoy gems. I am level 59. My team isn’t super strong. I think my top team is 21 k. I’ve done ok but I can’t really do much with crates cause of the league I’m in so I don’t really try for crates much. Just what I have experienced..any advice?

1
BedpanCommando•

Maybe try dropping a few leagues, slowly, and see how your crate retention goes. Theres a 1k trophy drop limit though per every 24 hours, so be careful

1
Grand_Scarlet•

Best of luck! I'd rather climb Everest, than start over with a brand new account in WoM

1
BluUmbreon•

Did the same and I found it to be a little more difficult to get more toons then before. Thats just what I thought.

1
Butch55OP•

I abandoned it already. Level 10, and it's already a joke trying to hold onto a crate.

[I abandoned it already. Level 10, and it's already a joke trying to hold onto a crate.]

They really should post a warning to new players about letting themselves move up too fast in the leagues.

I'm ftp and very new. I started about a week and a half to two weeks ago.

I'm level 41, A team = ~14k power. Can't get purple logs because reliable farming won't happen until I beat a few more battles on the 4th area of campaign. So houses are stuck at level 7 and my best toons came from the 5 gold ticket wheel.

Expensive to level toons at 40 and up, and I'm worried I've been dumping too much into toons that I won't use in the future. A team = 4 star bugs, king bugs, mountie, and daffy hood. Can't decide if I should swap out with lower star guys like my 3 star huntsman, photog, marvin, contender, or 2 star elf daffy...

I try to read here and discord as much as possible but there's so much I still don't know. This game really lacks online resources with mechanics, stats, details, spreadsheets, etc.

OG Bugs and Contender Sylvester are a good investment. I'm a one year veteran f2p and I still get some use out of them. I'm currently trying to get my Elf Daffy to a usable level so I can't tell you how good he really is, but if I were you I'd try to develop him too. Photographer Sylvester is another possibility; he's only a common but he's a very good common and an integral part of one of my teams. Some players have said good things about King Bugs and Daffy Hood, but so far I haven't been impressed by them.

1
Morda808•

Contender is fun. I got him on a 5 ticket spin. He self heals and starts with taunt and huge defense. So i guess the idea is to have him and 3 glass canons to finish the match quickly?

So he's my primary tank on the new account.

OG bugs is also good, he is also currently on my newer accounts A team

Photographer is a fantastic common toon. very easy to upgrade and good for slowing down the opponent

1
westchronics•

Invest in good free to play toons also keep farming them in WoM World. Daffy Hood is a a very very powerfull free toon. Only Porky Friar is a free tank. Bugs Bunny is an free Attacker. Healer is hard, try unlocking Pepe Le Bard or Granny OG and farm them crazy.

1
Poodletail•

Friar Porky is free, how? He's not on any of the battles in the campaign.

1
BedpanCommando•

You get him for doing your daily quests

1
Poodletail•

Gotcha. Thank you. I'll wait patiently.
