Help with weed identification

Good evening, LC! I live in Greenville, SC and need help identifying the following weeds, please: http://imgur.com/gallery/ihX8Kis

I scalped and put a pre-emergent down a few days ago, but these guys seem to be thriving. I'd like to buy a spray that's specifically designed to target them. I'm thinking it's Bluegrass & Nutsedge. Thanks!

Poa annua. No selective (post emergent) herbicides for it AFAIK. You can try a late summer preemergent application to prevent it if you won't be overseeing.

Much appreciated!

Definitely poa annua. However, I did find an excellent selective herbicide for it. It's called Negate 37WG.

Sadly, it is strictly for commercial use. Ahem.

Negate is labeled for residential use now. Just sprayed some last weekend.

The only downside is that it’s supposed to be mixed in one acre quantities, so if you have less than that to spray you’re going to have extra.

Yea the label says the mix won’t be good if you divide the granules but I did it anyway. Just divided by 7 or something. Worked great!

And it is expensive but soooo worth it. Oh man. I would pay a lot more to get rid of poa satan

Worth noting that this product can only be used in Bermuda and Zoysia grass - it'll do a number on TTTF or other cool season grasses. Which makes me sad because my TTTF lawn is riddled with Poa Annua. Looks like I'm just gonna have to let it burn out and then put some well timed doses of Tenacity down to hopefully mitigate the re-emergence of it in the fall. That should hopefully allow me to overseed as expected. I'll then throw a good dose of Prodiamine down after the safe period which may help further spreading of it.

Certainty. You’re welcome.

This type of weed will also die off when it gets warmer, right?

Yes, but it will have dropped lots of seeds by then and will come back stronger next year. In some climates it can get multiple growing cycles in each year.

Glyphosate is the only post emergent weed control that works for Poa Annua that I know of (at least that doesnt require some sort of commercial licensing.) My Bermuda is still dormant and I have a fair amount of Poa since I didn't put down a pre-emergent this year, so I just spot sprayed everywhere and didn't have to worry about burning my yard. Worked rather well so far.

My recommendation to you would be to do the same if you have dormant warm season grass. The other option is good ole fashion pulling, which if your grass isn't dormant may be the preferred route. The sooner you do either the more you'll mitigate next years Poa harvest. Then like other guy mentioned, put down a pre-emergent after your grass has come in provided you're not overseeding. It dies of naturally around May/June when starts getting hot, but it will leave bald spots behind if you let it live that long. It's an aggressive weed and comes back more and more each year if left unchecked, so the sooner you get rid of what you have now the better off you'll be next year.
