How you ear-lap cultural misogyny everyday (and some FDS ear bleach)

CULTURAL MISOGYNY

Music is near and dear to my heart. I listen to it during work, when I drive, when I work out, when I meal-prep for the week. But once you really start listening to it...you're kinda shocked at all of the smut you've been ear-lapping and never even noticed.

Just from the first few on the Hot 100 Chart (and constantly on the radio)

  • Roxanne (Arizona Zervas) - " She think I'm an asshole/She think I'm a player/She keep running back though/Only 'cause I pay up"
  • Say So (Doja Cat) - "Day to night to morning, keep with me in the moment/I'd let you had I known it, why don't you say so?"
  • Heartless (Weeknd) - " Never need a bitch, I'm what a bitch need/Tryna find the one that can fix me "
  • My Oh My (Camila Cabello) - "They say he likes a good time/He comes alive at midnight/My mama doesn't trust him/He's only here for one thing/But so am I"

And so what do we have? A nice collection of pickmes and fuckboys reaching audiences all across the country, their words delivered conveniently right to your ears. If you read these lyrics like a conversation you were having with someone and then listen to them just as is, the difference is atrocious. No wonder they say all this through song.

If you have any more alternative "healthier" music to listen to, I'm all ears! Would love to hear recommendations or thoughts about this. In the meantime, keep your ears open (closed?). Misogyny is everywhere.

Some Queen music ear bleach:

En Vogue - My Lovin' (You're never gonna get it)

Fifth Harmony - That's my Girl

Destiny's Child - Independent Women

Alicia Keys - Girl on Fire
