Thoughts on the Ending and Little Ricky theory! (Spoilers)
I’m not gonna lie, that ending was truly heartbreaking. I didn’t love this season as much as I loved the first two, but the last 3 episodes were really good.
I really had to watch the ending twice just to make sure I wasn’t hallucinating or the was a “gotcha” at the end and it was a joke.
I mean just like someone said in an earlier post, they all became what they hated, but also what people wanted them to be.
Monse never wanted to be a preppy girl, but her parents wanted that for her and that’s what she fell into. It is nice to see she has continued her relationship with her half sibling and probably her stepfather. I have a feeling that he likely unofficially adopted her, and likely is helping pay for her boarding school and new lifestyle.
Ruby didnt want to succumb to his darker emotions and become some angsts teen, but he did. To add to that, it looks like even Jasmine ditched her old look for something more lowkey (which I actually think looks soooo much better on her). Everyone excepted them to be these sad kids, with both of them having pretty tragic lives and yet they kept up their colorful appearances, until now at least.
Jamal was initially the most baffling because he fought to be his own person outside of his father legacy. And yet here he his a football player. Which is actually super weird character profession since it seemed like his parents finally accepted his eccentric behaviors. Than again, his mom’s “military school” comment was probably an indicator that they might try to force him out of his strange ways.
Then of course Oscar aka Spooky, I’m happy he got what he wanted. His character has come a long way and I really think this season was ultimately his redemption arc. He faced his issues with his father and made the right calls to get his life on track.
Last but not least, Cesar or Lil Spooky now. I honestly felt my heartbreak when they showed Cesar’s transformation. He became what he and everyone in his life wanted to make sure he never became, a full on Santos. It makes sense though, Monse was his rock but she seemingly never came back.
My only real issue is that they set up a lot of different arcs but didn’t really through. For example, Monse and Spooky kissing, completely dead in the water. Dwayne getting protection from Spooky meaningless. Not to mention, Monse’s mothers manuscript.
As for the Little Ricky mystery, I’m kind of ok it didn’t get resolved. I do think they had plans to resolve it at some point, but went with the more realistic ending. Like most of the show is hella unrealistic, but 5 kids finding a criminal in hiding would’ve never really worked. I think it works better as a red herring and more like a back drop for the real conflict of the season. The group is fighting change and the consequences of their actions.
So as far as Season 4, I wouldn’t mind if this was the series finale. It’s pretty dark and heartbreaking, but I’m at peace with this ending. It’s a cruel reality, that people change and friendships end. It’s not good or bad, just life.
Also, as far as Little Ricky goes, I have a feeling he might be hiding in plain sight. Based on Rosé’s comments, he might actually be a guidance counselor, teacher, life coach, therapist or talent scout. Although, my thoughts lean towards more of the therapist direction. My theory is that he probably did leave for a while, but came back with a new identity and became a therapist to help at risk youth. Rosé said he was a peaceful guy and saw the potential in people.
However, if and probably when they make Season 4, it’s easy to see how it’ll play out. Monse will come back to her old neighborhood, a completely different person. She of course, having presumably not been back in 2 years, is blindsided by all the changes. The season will revolve about the group coming back together and pulling Cesar out of his dark hole.
So ya, Thoughts and Comments?
