Hey Kings, I’m a bit worried about the future and could use some advice
I’d like to apologize in advance just in case this isn’t very Chadly. I’ll try to keep this semi-short thank you all for understanding.
For context I’m 21, turning 22 next month. My partner is the same age and is graduating from uni next year. Back in December I lost my job and since I feel like I’ve just been drifting. It’s always been my plan to go back to school and study something that I love (wildlife biology) but I’ve always put it off due to financial reasons and work.
My dilemma is a.) I’m not very good at school. It took me a couple extra years to get my high school diploma. I was in a very low depressive state during high school and could rarely work up the motivation to complete simple tasks. Slap some pretty bad ADHD on top of that and you’ve got an academic disaster. I’m still ashamed and embarrassed because of it, but life moves on. And b.) Assuming I get my shit together and I’m able to make it to school by fall quarter next year, I will still be at least 26-27 by the time I graduate with the degree I’d like. And that scares me for many reasons. My partner is really supportive of the idea and wants to help me to go to school, but I can’t help but feel that I’ll be too old/ not good enough/ wasting my 20’s/ won’t have enough money/ etc.
I want to be the best I can be, for my partner, my parents and myself, but fear keeps holding me back. Is it worth it to go back to school? Or should I just settle for a simple 9-5 and be content with that?
