Monitor debate

This year I am looking to upgrade my PC. I built my last computer about six years ago. My next build I am debating on whether I should build it to handle a 27 inch 1440p 144 hz monitor or just maybe go a 27/32 inch 1080p 144 hz monitor. I play some first person shooters but it just depends on my mood. I like a good color but don’t need an ultimate monitor. I wanted to hear from you all of you feel like 1440p is really that much better than 1080p. If I should just wait a bit longer before I make that leap. The difference between the two is about at this point is 200 to 300 dollars between a better monitor and GPU. Do you all feel like that investment is worth it? I’m genuinely curious of what you all think. (Side note I am going to wait until at least the new products come out for this year before I make my final decision. Like the next gen AMD products and Nvidia’s new GPU’s. I don’t feel like Intel is going to be coming out with anything ground breaking this year)
