What am I doing to myself?
Hello!
I'm not sure I'm in the right subreddit, but here goes nothing.
I'm currently a young adult who has both depression and anxiety. I get easily distressed and I don't have anyone to turn to in moments where I simply breakdown. I've just realized that whenever it gets really bad, to the point where I'm sobbing, I'm able to soothe myself by becoming someone else.
I'm not sure how to explain it. It's as though, while I'm crying, I can shift between myself and a person to comfort me. I'm both people at the same time. And, weirdly enough, this calms me down.
Is there a term for this? I'm curious to know if there are other people who also do this. I've never realized how odd this was for me to do until now and so I want to find out more about this, if possible.
