[Online][5E][PST] Relatively new online DM wanting to run homebrew campaign for 4-6 players that are willing to form a collaborative and fun story telling experience!
About me....
Hi everybody! I'm a relatively new online DM that has about 3 years of DnD experience DM'ing irl games and one shots. I'm looking to run this homebrew campaign that's been sitting in the back of my mind for a while now. My DM'ing style is very roleplay and narrative driven. I also love some combat, but most of my games revolve around intense high role play situations that can possibly wage war upon neighboring countries (it really happened one time). I also like to use the rules as a simple guideline to streamline the story telling of the game. Meaning that I'm not a stickler to rules, but I do use it to reign in certain players that don't adhere to the agreed party dynamic of the group.
In terms of my expectations of the group, I would like players who can take the world I give them and integrate their own backstories and personality in the narrative. After all collaborative story telling breeds great moments! I typically stick with the 5e rule set and official material approved by WotC, but if you want to talk about certain homebrew stuff I would be more than happy to hash it out with you. Most of all, I believe respect for the DM and other players are important. If we all can agree on what kind of game we want to run and all our expectations are laid out prior we'll have a great time all around!
Now here's a short description of what the campaign setting will be like.
It's going to be high fantasy and fairly narrative driven. If you want to write a detailed backstory go right on ahead! It will only enrich your connection with the story as a whole. Players will start at level 3. PM or comment your timezone, character if you all are interested :D. We can workout the schedule once I see everybody's situation, but it would have to be at late afternoon - night due to my work.
Campaign: Welcome to the holy lands of Aruthea
Aruthea is a continent mostly governed by the theocracy of the Oxiom Church. This religious coalition brought the warring lands of Aruthea together during the great calamity years ago. Devils and hellspawn rove the lands as the arch devils broke through material plane after an infernal pact was made by the mad king Valkus Froyer of Old Ashenburg. The events unfolded after this pact was dubbed the great calamity due to the bloodshed, war and famine Aruthea had to endure. Although hope was bleak during this period, the mad king’s brother Varamir Froyer managed to harness the power of several divine artifacts known as the 10 commandments. He vanquished his brother and pushed back the demonic excursion that plagued the continent. By taking over the previous capital of Old Ashenburg, he then formed the Oxiom Church to serve as a governing body over the renewed continent of Aruthea. New kingdoms were born during the renaissance of the theocracy. Soon, major cities that are part of the coalition had branches of the church instated in the heart of the cities. These “Sanctums” are governed by appointed “Bishops” by Varamir who now calls himself the Pope. As the influence of the church grew more and more people adopted their ideologies and beliefs. However, other neighboring kingdoms do not fully trust their dogmas and decided to establish small fiefdoms that make up the Republic of Sothran. These group kingdoms are led by a powerful coalition of mages called the Magus Sphere that seeks knowledge and understanding the depths of magic. The church looks down upon practitioners of the arcane arts, thinking that these were the same trappings that produced the calamity in the first place. Nevertheless, the continent of Aruthea is now full to the brim of excitement, wonder, political strife and intrigue. It is up to all you, the heroes of this story to navigate your own path through this tense and ever changing landscape.
