mdadm recovery. Fairly new user

Hey, so I've got 2 raid 1 set-ups through mdadm, I want to do some distro hopping with my primary boot drive which is nothing to do with the raid set up. If I reinstall another distro of Linux do I just need to copy the /etc/mdadm.conf to the same directory and then mdadm - - assemble - -scan to resync? It's really imperative I don't lose the information on the drives... Thanks. Ubuntu 19.10 if that makes a difference
