I've kind of fallen out of touch with MLP stuff and I just saw hideous toys at Target. Can someone please tell me what's going on?

I stopped watching season 9 halfway through because I didn't have any way to watch it (and I still don't because my dad is on probation and the cops might be monitoring our internet connection and he could go to jail if I even watch something on Kiss Anime or something) and I kind of stopped keeping up with what's been going on. I was at Target earlier and thought I'd go look at the My Little Pony toys, and I was APPALLED by the new toys. They're hideous! And that art style! What's happening? I mean, I've been able to figure out that there's a new show coming out with that horrific art style, but I can't check Equestria Daily for information because my computer is broken and my phone won't load the website properly for some reason. That art style alone has me more concerned than when Equestria Daily had an article saying that G5 would involve the different pony races living in different dimensions or something but still being able to interact with each other (or something like that; it was a long time ago). Can someone reassure me that the art style doesn't mean the show will be bad, or are my fears justified by the information I don't have yet?
