Is the higher the thc level the better?

Hey I have recent gotten legal in my state but it I feel like I'm missing something when I used to get high with friends back in school days it used to be so trippy but know nothing even when buying high level thc stuff can someone explain if I am supposed to be aiming for those levels of thc or am I supposed to look at a different factor?
