The Ending

Spoiler

I loved this show. Can’t tell you how much I appreciated the use of M83 in multiple of the seasons final moments (Intro - M83 at end of S3 & Outro - M83 at the end of S4). To me, those were incredibly well placed.

However, onto my rant.

I don’t think Mastermind Elliot should have given up control. Think about it, the real Elliot hasn’t been in control for the longest time. Sure we hear about times where he pops up for a little but then MM returns. The real Elliot has an entire perfect world that he is living in inside his own head. In his reality, everyone’s still alive, work is good, he is marrying Angela, and he actually seems happy. He has become adjusted to this reality as he sees it as his own. Why would he want to be taken from his perception of reality.

Meanwhile, MM has been creating his own life in the real world. Everything that has been happening has been a result of him. It was his failures that also resulted in his own successes. He has grown closer to his family and can finally rest. He has a reason to be happy in this life. Yet, he wants to give control back to the real Elliot. This will only make both versions unhappy.

While I understand that for writing purposes, it makes sense to end on this high note. I love the idea that control should be handed back to the ones that can’t speak above the loudest person in the room. It’s just that after thinking about it I’m not so sure it’s the best for Elliot.
