Simple Kidney Cysts
Fluid-filled sacs within the kidneys are known as simple kidney cysts. There can be one or more cysts in one or more kidneys. As people grow old, kidney cysts are more common. When these cysts grow larger in size, they can cause pain in the abdomen, side or back of a person. You can have pain, fever and tenderness when there is an infection of the tests.
For the diagnosis of simple kidney cysts, a specialist, practicing at a doctor clinic in Hooghly suggests the following tests:
- Ultrasound
- Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
- Computerized tomography (CT) scan
- Urine tests
- Blood tests
For the treatment of simple kidney cysts that are blocking the normal flow of blood or urine through the kidney, sclerotherapy is an effective procedure. There may be a need for laparoscopic surgery when the cyst becomes large enough. The surgeon inserts a laparoscope with a lighted video camera through one of the small incisions made in the abdomen. He/she removes or burns the cyst by inserting special instruments through the other incisions. The laparoscope helps the surgeon to view the entire operational area on a monitor during the whole procedure.
