Device Protection
I have bought Pixel 2 XL in 2017 and I bought device protection with it. As I was explained: "In simple terms, it extends your warranty as long as device is enrolled, plus, if you break it on your own - you would be able to get a new one for only $99".
So, I went with it.
The first time I had to use device protection was when I cracked my screen. It was 6 months ago. I paid $99 and got a new phone. Then, six months later, my WiFi got glitchy, I went through all the troubleshooting steps and Fi Support finally told me that they would replace the device. But I will have to pay $99.
What? I went to look at the help article on this issue and I see exactly what I was explained when I was buying it:
All Designed for Fi phones come with a manufacturer’s warranty to cover device malfunctions that occur through no fault of the owner. Google Fi device protection extends this coverage after the manufacturer’s warranty expires, for as long as a device is enrolled.
It does have a table of cost for replacing the phones but it is clearly for cracked screens and other accidental damage. Because the cited phrase clearly states that phone is under warranty as long as it's enrolled: so, "this coverage" refers to "manufacturer's warranty". So phone is covered under manufacturer's warranty right now since it is extended by Device Protection and my phone is enrolled. Malfunction occurred through no fault of me, the owner. So it is covered under manufacturer's warranty and should be replaced free of charged - exactly as I was explained when I was buying it. I agree - the first time I cracked the screen, it was damaged, I paid $99. Now, only 6 months of using new device it went bad and I have to pay $99 again? Either support engineer doesn't know what he's doing, or I was mislead and the help article is also misleading.
Can somebody help me understand?
Upd.: This is funny, I already got four emails from support. Each one says something along the lines: You Device is damaged, warranty expired. Good thing you have device protection. Just pay $99 and get a new phone. And give me this link: https://support.google.com/fi/answer/6309809?hl=en
To which I reply along the lines: Device is not damaged. WiFi is going out. Then cite the link:
All Designed for Fi phones come with a manufacturer’s warranty to cover device malfunctions that occur through no fault of the owner. Google Fi device protection extends this coverage after the manufacturer’s warranty expires, for as long as a device is enrolled.
And then say something like: if I understand this simple English correctly, "this coverage" means manufacturer's warranty, and it is extended as long as my device is enrolled. Which it is. Under this warranty replacement for malfunctioning unit is free.
Then in couple of hours I get another email like that from agent with a different name.
Four almost identical emails so far.
