Hijab is not a cultural thing and we should encourage it when non-Muslims wear it

Hijab

So this has been building up inside of me for some time but recent events have made me really mad.

I remember reading a reddit post where a non Muslim woman was asking if it was appropriate to wear a hijab when she was with her Muslim friends and to dress modestly when around them. The comments were unbelievable. You had ‘muslims’ saying she couldn’t wear the hijab, that she was - wait for it - APPROPRIATING THE CULTURE. And this wasn’t just one or two comments.

Almost all the comments were saying this and it made me so upset that they’d possible driven someone further away from Islam because of their stupidity.

Then recently some popular insta models (Cindy Kimberly and Alissa Violet) visited a Muslim country and wore the hijab and abaaya when visiting a mosque. Yet again you had people saying they were appropriating a culture and wearing it just to model despite it being a rule that they have to wear hijab at the mosque.

So please dear sisters remember that being Muslim already puts us at a disadvantage as people see us as terrorists or extremists. Why do we further this belief by attacking innocent people who wear clothing that is representative of our religion when it’s actually good?! Imagine if these people who wear modest clothing start to read up on Islam through the support they get and become Muslim?

If you’ve ruined that persons chance of ever exploring the religion then that is a sin but if you support them and encourage them and they become Muslim then you get reward.

Thank you for reading my rant 💕
