Sword/Bow Defensive skills?

Playing an Assassin this time around; I know Daggers get Roll, and Shield gets block/perfect block. Just wondering if Sword and Bow have any good defensive skills or if that's the tradeoff I pay for using Sword and Bow.

Also; what level do I need to be to use the Dragon's Dogma sword effectively?
