MLMs vs Paid Time Off: I opened my friend's eyes today!
My interesting lunch today.
We were discussing the changes coronavirus is having on certain industries, not about our jobs specifically or anything we do, just in general.
The conversation then led to how it would affect our jobs and I was talking about how I am going to have to used my PTO if something happens instead of using it for vacation time. That the 50 hours I have accrued had to be used for this.
My other friend, let's call her Anti M, said something similar and we were contemplating how we were so sad that we could not travel even though flights and things are really cheap.
Our MLM friend, let's call her Olive Oyl, was just staring into space.
We asked her if she was ok and Anti M said "I mean, lucky you that you could work from home! It will be ok!"
Anti M didn't really believe what she was saying, she was just trying to make Olive Oyl feel better.
Olive Oyl: "You guys are upset you can't used your PAID time off to travel while I don't even have that. I work all the time. On my phone. All the time. It must be hard to be you!" She kind of laughed at that last sentence, but it sounded like a fake laugh, almost resentful.
It was like, she opened her eyes.
Many times, Anti M had tried to tell her to leave the MLM lifestyle. But nothing clicked.
Today, we weren't talking about her MLM and were just talking about life when she noticed what was happening.
Her "boss babe" company in which she is "self employed" can't take care of her.
I left our conversation because I cut my lunch short to finish a project. I have been checking on her social media and she has been very quiet since this afternoon.
I texted her that we were hiring an entry level position with benefits and sent her the email for her resume, but she hasn't responded. It starts at $15 an hour, I hope she takes it.
I will post an update if I hear from her.
