Upgrading the starter ship.

Has anyone else tried upgrading the starter ship? I upgraded it to b class and then bought all the slots it would let me. It maxes out at 35 slots instead of 48. I'm wondering if I upgrade it to class A can I add more slots or is that itfor it?
