Cat recovering from Urethral Blockage - need some advice and input please!! URGENT

Advice

Hey guys

In January my cat was having troubles peeing, I took him to the vet. He had crystals and I got him on a special urinary diet (Hills prescription urinary diet).

From mid January - March 4th he was fine. Then he was having issues again. Went back to the vet, and again he had crystals. The only explanation that I could come up with for why he got crystals again, is because I completely fucked up and fed him normal food for 4 days and not his urinary food.

He was fine (or at least appeared fine) for right around 2 days, and then March 7th late at night, had to bring him back to the vet. He was in discomfort and couldn’t pee.

Now it got serious: he was blocked.

A couple pay cheque’s later and 2.5 days at the vet and they sent him home. He had a catheter for 2 days and they said he was looking awesome.

He’s been home for 31 hours at the time of posting. So far he’s eaten normally, taken all his meds, been in a relatively good cuddly mood most of the time,

BUT— he’s had 2 episodes that last about 2-3 hours where he walks around constantly trying to pee. Only drops are coming out. He’s had just 1-2 decent size pees. He has made some weird noises when trying to pee, so he’s obviously in some discomfort.

I honestly don’t know what to do. I feel like it only stresses him out more to keep hauling him back to the vet, and honestly I don’t even think there’s much they can do. And I don’t want to bring him there every day and cash out $300 every 2 nights.

Does his recovery sound normal thus far? Does it sound bad? Should he be peeing more? He’s getting at least SOMETHING out but not a ton, and I’m curious why he KEEPS trying to pee..?

Any input would be so so so greatly appreciated. I know he’s “just a cat” but I frickin love the little pal.

Thank you in advance.
