my whole conscious life, i’ve frequently made efforts to try *not* to dream about this-or-that. is that normal?

Discussion

alright so i’m manically googling “trying not to dream” and keywords to describe my situation, sorry if this post is a little all over the place haha basically i’m processing a lot of mental health stuff at age 19, i’m part of a DID system, and i.... am processing the fact that, sometimes, i’ll try so hard not to dream about something (either a past event or just something that happened during the day), and sometimes, no matter how hard i try, said thing will “haunt me in my dream” so to speak. it’s not usually scary but it’s like things i didn’t want to be reminded of almost smugly popping up in dreams. it’s never been quite enough to really spook me but it’s been happening for.... as long as i can remember though sporadically enough not to stick out to me until now. i guess maybe it’s been a subconscious of types reaching out however they could. i don’t dream a ton in general. maybe i ought to just try not to influence my dreams at all for the time being and break the habit?
