Can see some riders don't want to return the UAE in the future given how terrible this was handled , like even the Colombian embassy didn't have the full picture.
All fun and 5 Star hotels until you are stuck there
All fun and 5 Star hotels until you are stuck there
let's remember that some people didn't even get the fun and 5 star hotel part either https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/series/modern-day-slavery-in-focus+world/united-arab-emirates
Probably should stay away from American rac...
Oh wait, that should actually be pretty easy.
What no Tour Du Pont or Coors Classic?
Tour Du Pont
Look what they did to our legendary Tour de Trump
Still no team announcement I believe, but it's finally official then?
Poor Fernando. Normally I'd say not to expect any more big results from him the rest of the season, but I don't expect big results from anybody this year.
Once he recovers, he'll be the only one willing to actually go to races
I don't expect
bigany results from anybody this year
I am just expecting that nearly everything is cancelled for the rest of the year at this point.
Curious if this is essentially career ending for Gaviria with the supposed long term lung damage that this disease does.
supposed long term lung damage that this disease does.
Source? With SARS and MERS a large percentage of survivors didn’t have long term health effects and it seems as though Covid-19 is milder, although more contagious.
There have been reports from China from a test that doctors did that some of the recovered patients have extensive lung damage or scarring I believe. I'm on mobile so I can't look for it right now, but the reports have been linked on reddit several times.
From what I have seen, if you actually get bad pneumonia from it (~25% of people infected), you will end up with some level of lung scarring and fibrosis, which would obviously decrease athletic performance.
And how many of those 25% are either elder citizens or already have a weakened immune system due to underlying diseases? Stop fear mongering and speculating when you're not presenting all the necessary facts.
Seems quite speculative, not sure where you get that 25% from.

Huh?
Stop with the hysteria. This is not even season ending for 85% of prople
Everyone expressing concern for his future health is being buried by downvotes and deniers of the potential harm of coronavirus. But it does have the ability to permanently damage the lungs of people who catch it. I wish we could support people expressing concern for Gaviria and not jump on the scientifically false "It's just hysteria! It's not that dangerous!" bandwagon.
I do feel an important nuance here is that according to the article you linked 82% of patients only develop mild symptoms -- I assume that means they do not get lung damage. Still, that means about 1 in 5 do get worse than mild symptoms. Though I imagine statistics are unreliable in this situation (but I'm just a guy on the internet so what do I know).
Fwiw, classification of "mild" contains stuff like very high fever & pneumonia. It can still be a terrible experience.
I, too, am just a person on the internet!
And I apologize if my comment made it seem as if it was common, or even likely, for COVID-19 to cause permanent lung damage. I only meant to say that it is possible and that it seems like a reasonable topic of discussion re: a cyclists recovery and future career.
Yep, do not get why that happened. I don't think he is going to die, but I do think this could hamper his career as any lung damage to an athlete that essentially has a career entirely based on the ability of their lungs and heart is going to be a bad thing.
Here's a video he posted 25 minutes ago:

Can someone translate and tldr ?
His message is included as text in the article and the video is linked there also.
thx
Potentially career ruining disease for athletes, especially endurance ones since it has the ability to permanently damage your lungs. Hoping this won't be the case for anyone who gets it.
Really doubt it. Thats lure speculation and fear mongerint
Well the director of center for infectious diseases in the US said it recently on the Joe Rogan podcast. I trust him more than you tbh.
Edit: "I doubt it" isn't an argument btw, get me facts.
Link? You might be taking it completely out of context which I suspect you are.
I guess you werent lying when you said “potentially” but that percentage of odds must be less than .5%
Just look at his youtube channel, guy's name is Michael something. I'm on my way to work, can't get you the exact timestamp. Either way it's well worth the full listen because the guy is straight up facts no speculation.
I was scared when I saw this title. I hope he will recover as soon as possible.
here's hoping he makes a full recovery.
This will kind of be an interesting and very public case study of how a fit person with lots of medical resources gets on with the virus. Hope he doesn't suffer too much!
Victim how?
Uhh is he dead?

Pro Cyclists have a worse immune system than a normal person because of the amount of training.
The symptoms of Corona are less severe them the common flu, most people get over it in less then 14 days, most in a week. The problem with it is the speed it spreads.
Deaths are happening to people who have really weak immune systems, mostly older people. It is pretty unheard of to get this virus for kids under 9 years cause their body is so used to exfoliating bacteria.
"The symptoms of Corona are less severe them the common flu"
Yeah go tell that to the 20% infected italian that are in intensive care (and not all of them are old).
And for example Italian patient 1 was just discharged today after being in intensive care for a 3 weeks (with artificial respiration). He was 38 year old without any health issue and he was also running alot. That's not "just a flu"

I suspect he'll stop training pretty sharpish...
That headline makes it sound like he died.
This is one of the things I hate the most about this whole situation.
It is indeed serious and while we should not panic, we should also all collectively be really careful and follow any possible steps to lessen the spread of the virus.
But there are a ton of media outlets who still fearmonger it even more to generate click, even though the fear levels are already extremely high. Deciding to go with that headline is unethical as fuck and the guys who did it are complete irresponsible assholes for doing it.
I never actually saw that headline in the article (although the link still reads that way), but perhaps they've changed it in response to negative feedback. The title now reads:
Which seems much more responsible.
I saw this post just minutes after it was made. I was going to make a comment complaining about the title, but when I read the article it was indeed the exact title
A bullshit title, to be sure. But it's Velonews, you can't expect ethics or quality.

Any honest media outlet that hasn’t sold out never made it to the top. We haven’t even heard of them.
Exactly what I thought
