Hey, does anyone know if this temporary unemployment will affect business owners taxes? My uncle owns a restaurant (that I work at) and temp layoffs seem like the best bet for him and employees but he doesn't have a clear answer.
Typically if an ex-employee files for unemployment the owners ui tax will increase, now what if 14 workers file all at once? There's already little benefit for businesses who choose to close during these times. Hopefully restaurant owners won't get double screwed.
I may be wrong but don't they only get taxed if they are terminated? I though layoffs didn't effect the tax rate
Like if they fire the person? I really don't know, I'll try to do some more research.
lay offs qualify (generally) for unemployment...source, many old employees (when I was a boss) were seasonal, they worked about 9 months out of the year and collected benefits the other part of the year......especially temporary lay offs. but, call the unemployment folks, they will help figure it out. click on the chart, it's on there.
This is really not what I was expecting to see here.
Yeah, I have always thought not giving people UI because they are sick is bullshit.
decades ago I was on UI and got the flu. So no check, plus near death experience, so yeah, America!
