Teachers ALL need to call in sick, what are they waiting for?

I'm a teacher. I've thought of calling in sick....but then I expose the relief teacher to whatever I've been dealing with all week. Plus the kids don't have someone there that they trust in a very stressful time. No way you would get all the teachers even just at my site to call in sick - a few are still not worried in the least and about half are at least willing to go with Department orders.

Regarding strike action....the curve of infection rates is rising exponentially anyway. We strike, the infection rate goes up: "Oh the horrible teachers have doomed the nation!!! We were all just fine before they started striking!!" An actual school shut down (which btw every teacher should have prepared for this week under Department orders....even though they're not close schools of course) is the only fair answer.

That's me! I'm the relief teacher! Today I'll be working across 4 grades and have contact with many many students and adults across the school. I'm hoping that this school has sanitiser, as the last one did not have enough for the students and myself. I don't want to be out of work, but we need to close them. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.

I'm also hoping I don't get hurt or a trashed classroom today, but that's a different issue.

You need to act as a collective and call in sick, what the hell is your union doing still allowing you all to go into work during a pandemic? You need to come together now and just all call in sick, do it for the children.

I dunno why people are moaning. Just don’t send your kids to school who cares what they say. They’re your kids.

This is about teachers being forced to work in person rather than online because schools are being threatened by Scovid.

You’re missing my point.

Teachers should refuse too.

I’d be leaving that union when this all settles.

Agreed. Ours has been out all this week. School hasn't said anything at all.

Same. I felt awful after sending my kids on Monday so I pulled them out then. I’ve called the school every day to touch base on what we should be learning too.

One of the other parents told us that kids had been sent home for coughing! Made us feel like we'd made the right choice.

There's a great Facebook group -

Schooling From Home Australia : Curriculum Support/Parent Support/e-learning.

And if your game to go to the shops Big W has/had some workbooks that our daughter (6) has been loving.

We actually got similar (I assume) workbooks from Kmart a while ago. Will definitely be using.

I’m trying to avoid going out too often if I can.

I would join the FB group, but I deleted in 2015 and am honestly happier for it

It’s like hearing the sheep baa as they lead their lambs into a field full of ravenous wolves. So dumb. People need to trust their instincts more.
