Sitting here locking down friends and colleagues account whilst answering calls, pretending I don’t know who’s next.

Started this week buzzing off the rush and success of getting the remote infrastructure to handle the entire office remotley.

Now realising this is just the beggining of the shit show.

Sad day

I just hope mine position ain't on the other side. Brazil just put out a curfew and every non essential business is halted. I work in non essential. I have 2 babies, a wife, a mortgage and a half pantry. Im scared.

I really wish you the best. I just can’t seem to wrap my head around all of this and how quickly this has all escalated into panic.

I can.

People walk looking downward and that's not coincidence. People live their lives looking downward, with a short area in their surroundings being monitored by them.

Instead of looking up to prepare for what's coming, people only react when things burst their bubble.

We wait too long to react to a situation that was coming towards us.

The only reaction possible against an unexpected threat is panic.

I'm "lucky" to work for a local UK planning authority and the management have just realised how much work we have been doing to convert to WFH, for an organisation that just does NOT WFH!

We have legal / statutory tasks that need to be done, so some staff have to be physically present for some of the processes.

I went through that in 2014, I could feel my soul dying as I locked out accounts.

Sucks man, but it's part of the job.

I worked at a medium sized foundry in 2009 when everything hit the fan, and one of my tasks was recovering the IT assets from various offices when people were laid off. Because of the size of the company, I literally knew everybody.

It was always such a strange feeling sitting in their perfectly silent office just after the got let go watching data transfer to the archive location. Their name and handwriting was all over the place, their smiling family picture that they forgot to grab in their emotional rush still staring at me, and half the time the office still smells like them.

Did the leave a fish in a fax machine after being let go?

You’ve never taken apart a computer and it smells like the person who is using it?

No, but i've sat at their desk and used the keyboard/mouse then my hands broke out in a rash 20 minutes later.

Thankfully, hand soap stopped it.

stop eating over your keyboard people...

Monday is going to suck for us-- I have a list of 60 people we're letting go first thing in the morning.
