I too remember this. Oh how the turntables...

Honestly that probably would have been their biggest song. Maybe not as big as where are u now, but it would have been a success.

Edit. These guys must hate money lol

These guys must hate money

Honestly, if you don’t feel like you can finish a track then there’s no point forcing it - Diplo has had major successes in the charts with other songs, I’m sure he’s not losing sleep over this scrapped track lol

I agree. I highly doubt anyone involved has lost any sleep over this song as everyone involved is extremely successful.

I respectfully disagree. Honestly shocked this many upvoted and I’m not being dick, just curious where you’re coming from. Here’s my take if anyone’s curious and/or bored while social distancing:

RE: the song... If people don’t feel bummed and arent begging for it here, then it likely wouldn’t have been a billboard hit...which shouldn’t make or break a song anyway. But comments seem less amped for this to be finished compared to most other IDs here.

RE: them not liking $...disagree on many levels, tried to make them brief tho so here we go:

1 - this is what’s wrong with music today. We shouldn’t shame artists that choose to not finish or sell their work just for a quick paycheck. $ can easily strip the creativity away, among other aspects that evoke feeling. Selfishly, I don’t want Jack ü nor Skrillex to have another hit as big as where r u now—was overplayed to nauseam, despite the now infamous jackü snares and vocal chops they practically introduced to the industry. Sounds dramatic but vocal chops are the new chorus across pop, country, rap, etc. —it’s rare when a song doesn’t have it at this point. You can still hear it all over Top 40 radio today.

2 - Skrillex doesn’t seem to care about $ that much. He took a 2 year break which easily cost him 8 figures.

During his break he prob turned down new offers and lost revenue stream he had coming in from touring, festival circuits, releases and residencies like Vegas. He was making $10m+ per year conservatively when active and has net worth to last lifetimes per Forbes. Plus Sonny doesn’t seem like the materialistic type, More-so the secret millionaire guy that doesn’t flaunt it, but still enjoys having it.

3 - Diplo loves to shamelessly pimp himself on social media and makes decent $$ from that alone. Add in his music/projects and you’ll arrive at his 8 figure net worth (per Forbes). If $ was the issue he would’ve tweeted it already. Segways into my final reason...

4 - Streaming song revenue = little $ for artists compared to total earnings.

Google “2020 song streaming revenue” and you’ll likely see #1 spot has less the $1m (haven’t checked recently). Tour and merch are where the $ is. If Jack Ü decided to finish and release, I bet neither would say $ was the determining factor—unless it’s an album (more $, label contract), or they enjoy getting paid 1% of revenue per stream of a song that was 100% their idea.

All of this wrapped up = my shocked reaction to so many upvotes lol. Not being a dick just wanted to voice my personal opinion regarding $ influencing artists. Cheers!

To your first point, there has been some begging for this song, but yeah probably not close to the most sought after song by people of this sub. Though, I actually think this wouldnt be the best population to survey regarding what would be popular, because people that belong to groups like this are usually more hardcore fans, and most people would pick more obscure, less radio-friendly songs for their most sought-after releases. For example, the Feed Me collab was probably the song I’ve wanted most for years (now that we got the reconstructed version that was posted here I’m pretty happy about that) and there’s tons of things over the years that I would have loved to see released that were scrapped. I think this song would be different because like Where Are U Now it would be played on the radio just because of how big each of the artists are and that would drive up its mainstream popularity with people that are not part of this sub. The feed me collab, for example, would not have been played on the radio and be as successful, even though in my opinion it’s one of the coolest things Skrill made since SMNS.

Re: the money comment... In defense of everyone who upvoted this, I added the edit with the money comment probably when there was already ~30 upvotes so most people probably didn’t see it. That additional comment was 100% a joke. I probably should have added an /s. I was just reaffirming my opinion that I think the song would be among the most popular Jack U songs.

Also, I’m definitely not calling Skrill or Diplo greedy, in fact, really the opposite because I do believe the song would have gotten popular and made them some money. Would it have been as popular as Where are U Now? Probably not, but if F+TM did their share of promotion, it would pull 2 different worlds together, plus people that only listen to what’s popular. Before COVID-19 hit the US I went out to the beach with some friends and the rip of this song came up in shuffle and everyone knew it was Florence. No one was like “that must be Jack U,” although everyone did know who Skrillex was once I said he made it as part of Jack U.

I’m also aware that streaming certainly does not bring in the bulk of an artists money, but consider if this song was part of an album that came with promotion, a tour, perhaps another Grammy performance, etc.

With all that said, I have the utmost respect for Skrill man. I think he’s been one of the most groundbreaking and hardworking artists in the past decade, and I certainly wouldn’t shame him over not finishing something he didn’t want to finish and I’m glad he hasn’t stooped to the level of releasing music only with money in mind. He really could have retired in 2015 considering all the music he has blessed us with. He’s put out tons of music and certainly doesn’t owe anyone anything else.

But, hell yeah I’m looking forward to this next album!

Also, no need to worry man, you’re not being a dick. It’s all good. I didn’t mean to come across as one either and I hope I didn’t come a cross as one in this response!

Big ups homie for amicably responding. Wish more people would hop off all the hate and focus on the good that comes from discussing our differences. Glad to know your edit was a joke—poor timing on my part. Enjoy your weekend :)

Just because its unfinished, doesn't mean it's never coming out

Feel like it was a lot more finished then amplifier, ü bounce it, and el Cuco

Disagree except for maybe el cuco, constellation was only like a minute 40 lol

BigVentEnergy/u/plasmaticriver's new acct•

Nah, Amplifire had versions that were a lot more finished than the demo that leaked, it just got lost. Bounce It was pretty close to done. El Cuco is done in my estimation.

I didn't really think too much of that song anyway. Maybe it was shelved

Ahh, I remember seeing Jack Ü in 2016 and they played it at the end of the set. People can say it’s generic all they want but I remember how good that song felt and it brings back great memories.
