Bootcamp error. "There is not enough space available on the disk."

It is referencing the external drive needed when using Bootcamp on High Sierra or later. I am using an 250GB external hard drive that I partitioned as a storage device. It is completely emtpy, so 250GB available.

There is enough space, so what is the problem??

There is plenty of space on the internal 1TB SSD to be partitioned with Windows, about 500GB free.

i don't think bootcamp allows you to use external disk. It should be an internal one

you can try installing widows without bootcamp which is what I go for personally because Bootcamp have let me down so many times before. First of, before I give you the instructions to doing that if you're interested... You want to install windows on the internal or external disk?

Reformat Entire with GUID Partition. And try again. Reformat Entire Disk, not only Partition.

In Disk Utility, Select View > Show All Disk. Then choose your Hard Disk Device Name (example : AppleSSD..., SanDisk,...)

beware this will delete everything on the device... It's best to have FileVault turned off during this process

It says I need to format the drive as a single MS-DOS (FAT) partition with Master Boot Record scheme. So how would GUID help me?

You can not install Windows with MBR Scheme on GUID Based Scheme on you Mac. Keep select GUID and FAT. Because GUID Based Windows Installation requires only FAT32 Media (which displayed MS dos FAT on Mac).

  • macOS fully using GUID Scheme for Hard Drive since Lion.

And if you still can’t create Installation via BootCamp. You can manually create from Vanilla ISO. Then install Bootcamp Software after that. macOS will automatically detect Windows on Startup Disk. As same as using Bootcamp
