Time to merge with r/Angular !

Discussion

now that legacy AngularJS 1.x moved to its own subreddit ( r/AngularJS ) with 55k subscribers!

I believe it is the right time to join forces and merge this sub ( r/Angular2 ) which has 42k subs and r/Angular (14.5k) and make r/Angular the only subreddit for everything Angular!

in the mean time react has r/reactjs and vue has r/vuejs

what do you think?

good luck convincing the mods. couldn't convince them when it went to it's just angular guys doubt you can now.

abuassarOP•

for the sake of Angular they need to collaborate, as there are many posts now duplicated in both r/angular and r/angular2 !

hijacking the top comment, apologies, but I crossposted in r/angular and have posted the following there in reply:

So the OP has been up for 18 hours now and there is no response from mods on either sub. u/aphoenix has responded to this previously.

My thoughts:

  1. Why does r/angular have only 1 moderator? that can't be healthy for a community sub - especially one with almost 15k members. u/aphoenix please consider adding some other moderators to the list - the community (that I assume you started) deserves it.

  2. This sub links to the other Angular subs in the sidebar. This is a clear indication to me that this sub is dedicated to its mission and not just trying to massage an ego. The same cannot be said of the reverse.

  3. This sub has the correct name.

  4. Personally I am going to unsub from r/angular2 and I hope everyone else will do the same. The mods there decided not to join r/angular for whatever reason - and I think that's the wrong decision. They should at the very least link to this sub as well.

yup I fully agree with you, actually I just asked u/aphoenix to assign me as a mod for r/angular

I hope this time we gonna fix this situation once and for all

I mean I didn't know about the other sub. It'll have way more than 14k subs soon

abuassarOP•

paging the mods:

u/aphoenix

u/ngFTW

u/aQutie

The last time u/aphoenix posted here was... never? I dunno a long time ago. ngFTW was never active. u/aQutie was active but hasn’t been around for 5 months.

You want change? Just call people to unsubscribe and move to the other sub. This sub isn’t moderated anymore.

aphoenix•

To be fair, I'm a mod in the other subreddit that he's talking about.

But to be more fair, I don't post much there, I just remove spam.

2
abuassarOP•

would you kindly assign me as a mod for r/Angular ?

I wonder how many egos are involved in this.....maybe this says more about my lack of imagination but I can't see a valid reason to not do this other than ego.

I can imagine the owner/mods of r/Angular2 (the one with the largest community by a singnificant margin) not wanting to cede control of such a large community, whilst at the same time the owner/mods of r/Angular not wanting to cede control of the clearly superior sub name.

Whichever of you created your sub 2nd.....shame :P

edit: I just checked out r/Angular and I see that they link to this sub but this sub doesn't link to r/Angular - the plot thickens!

this situation doesn't help those who starts learning angular, as they will clearly head to r/angular first to seek answers ...

This subreddit has more posts, more users and even more mods.

If anything have angular direct to this subreddit.

pimmoz•

Or we all just unsubscribe and join r/angular

Sure, merge them, but what do the React and Vue numbers have to do with it?

9
abuassarOP•

the numbers for react and vue subreddits were not meant for comparison and I removed them,

what I meant is just to illustrate that both react and vue have a single subreddit instead of two as it is the case with angular sadly

boogermanus•

Yes, good, good.

Shouldn't we be keeping with social distancing during these times of crisis?

Programador_ad_hoc•

How angularjs moved to its own subreddit "now"? It has always been like this. Every WEEK we have posts like this: "merge this to that". The mods have already stated they tried to talk to the others "Angular"-only and there were no changes.

2
abuassarOP•

you are right, I just checked the creation dates of all angular subreddits:

r/angulajs june 2012

r/angular feb 2013

r/angular2 feb 2015

r/angular was a porn sub originally, but it was dead. 2 years after this sub was created, r/angular was petitioned to be taken over and was granted. The sub was called angular because of some "bony" porn fetish. Many of the "subscribers" over there are from dead accounts during the porn era.
