Then why does my boomer mom think it’s ok to go on like it’s business as usual?

There are many people from other generations being stupid too.

Agreed, stupidity is not age specific. It encompasses many, many people.

Is she old enough to predate standard school vaccinations? She may have seen a lot of illness or been sick herself, and has a different perspective about the seriousness of communicable diseases. But probably not old enough to have seen polio closures. So in the age group where you get sick, but recover. Still not right but maybe talk to her calmly.

Or she has been a long time speeder, line jumper, and parking violator and the rules don't apply to her.

Until the last few years, my dad has lived a very healthy life. With some memory loss seeming to set in, it feels like he is still stuck in that fairytale healthy life that he's had, even with the recent events. My concern is that he's forgotten the consequences of his recent events and how serious infections can be, let alone this.

After many phone calls, emails and text messages, the government restrictions adding to my care and concern warnings, he finally got it. He's pulling in fish on the ice right now, a long ways away from Coronavirus.

Why is he like this? I think being born just after World War II, but not really having any direct effect from the wars between then and now, he's just never experienced when society needs to step back, take it easy, Keep Calm and Carry On sitting on your butt and realizing nothing exciting happening and boredom are what we are going for. Exciting right now would probably be devastating.

I was encouraged, after hearing some concerning stories about some younger people not taking this seriously, by seeing social media posts from younger Canadians that will hopefully reach any more stubborn ones. But really, everything is closed. Go ahead and go out but there's nothing interesting to do at businesses.

I always lean to the side of panic. So it has been reassuring to see my son and his friends take this serious, remain calm, and still find some humour.

Because she is a selfish, privileged boomer that doesn't think life and death rules for others don't apply to her? just my guess as a boomer.

We haven't seen this in our lifetimes, look up what Italy and China did to control these selfish people.

My boomer Dad, too. He’s immunocompromised as well - it’s so foolish but some won’t listen.

Great to hear.

Downtown as well. 2nd Ave only has a few vehicles... Great that people are following the suggestions but eerie.

It really hit me when it was 3:00 PM on a Saturday with snow on the ground and I drove past Jemini arena and the parking lot was empty. Just felt so out of place.

Even 20th was pretty dead by fire creek. I took my doggos out for a short walk yesterday.

My son just said the same thing.

Was it like this during H1N1? I was like 9 I don't remember

1
smellyfatchina•

H1N1 didn’t spread as far or as fast as this. It was on people’s radar but in Saskatoon it was business as usual.

They also had a vaccine quite quickly last I remember.

H1N1 was barely a blip. It was in the news a bunch, but no one really gossiped about it or anything, and certainly didn’t change people’s way of life.

I didn’t even know it had spread so far until I looked it up a few weeks ago.

Not as bad as this I’m told, someone was talking about having parties over it XD

Drove by circle mall and the parking lot was close to full. Maybe people wait til noon to go out? Too bad it's not empty all day

The amount of traffic reminds me of when I was a kid.
