Unable to get OEMR XL R720XD server with idrac 7 to give me the webUI.

Solved

I bought this a couple of weeks ago and finally have had the time to unbox it and play with it. I had researched the idrac 7 card before I got the machine thinking it would be a breeze to set-up. Well its several hours later and I am still stuck. I have gone through the lifecycle controller and made sure all firmware was up-to-date and ran the network wizards as recommended on several tutorials. I have the idrac being given an ip address through DHCP and I am able to ping and SSH into it. I have also setup the evaluation license for the enterprise service (tried to get it to work with just the NIC and the express service as well). I cannot for the life of me seem to get the webUI to show up. I am hoping its something dumb I am missing as I have spent all day on this and probably just need to step away. Any help to point me in the right direction would be incredibly helpful!

I bought a couple of these r720XDs used from I forget where now, and TLDR, figured out that some idiot had gone in via the iDRAC CLI (SSH) and disabled the web server.

Here is the guide to re-enable it via SSH:

Well I am in the process of resetting back to defaults right now. This looks promising. Thanks for the info man!

No problem! Hope that helps if it doesn’t start on reset. IIRC we tried resetting and it still stayed off...but it was quite a while ago haha - good luck!

Dude...I have no idea how long I would have spent before I stumbled across that. They didn't mention anywhere about that in any of the buyer info I was looking for. Thank you very much kind stranger. Take a gold, you deserve it.

Haha I’m telling ya, one of my techs and I spent probably 2hrs scouring the inter webs to no avail. I remembered having worked (briefly) in the CLI so I ran some google searches involving CLI and found that exact Spiceworks article. As soon as I saw your post I knew that HAD to be the same thing. Glad it worked! Thanks for the gold!

You plugged into the dedicated nic or the shared? If you can ssh in then you can probably use racadm to check the configuration and completely reset it to factory default.

I’m plugged into the dedicated now that I got the evaluation license for enterprise. I will try that.
