save data transfer

hiii.

I was wondering if anyone has played this game on one Switch-unit, and then transfered their save (alongside their user) to another Switch-unit yet?

I’m asking because of the fact that my brand new AC:NH-console is making all kinds of weird scratching noises from the fan (even when I’ve just turned it on - nothing running yet), and I have to return it to the store. I’m assuming I’ll receive a new unit, but I have already sunk an unhealthy amount of hours into my little island and I don’t wanna start over : (

since I still have my old Switch lying around I thought that I might be able to transfer my user back over and take my town with me, but I’m unclear about the whole one-island-per-unit-policy, one-time-only-save-restore and whatever else that is weird about this game and saves.

is my actual town stuck on my new, broken console forever? in the case that I can transfer my save; how do I delete the second town that I installed on my old unit? I’m so confused, so if anyone has any idea about what to do, please let me know
