He was a part of the nerd herd that was able to add players to the Cavs during their finals runs.

He would be a great pick up for assistant GM, although it seems weird for us to be hiring an assistant GM before we hire a GM...but the guy knows the cap insanely well.

If leaks are happening about an assistant we already may have a gm lined up who is giving us the options he wants for asst

He also might just be brought in as a capologist and assistant GM focusing on numbers and the CBA which would be useful regardless of who we get as GM. But you may be right...maybe we already have our guy and need to wait for the season to end to lock them in. Or maybe it’s Allan Houston...

I thinks that’s exactly what they did. Just hiring this guy cause a good team would just have him in the room. Anyone whose a good gym likely has a cap guy and he can be ours

Per Dan Gilbert:

"He's probably one of the finer capologists in the league. He knows more about the cap than probably PricewaterhouseCoopers knows about the IRS code. He lives with the cap, with the collective bargaining agreement.

"He comes up with ideas on things that the league has never heard of, they have to go into their committees to check if it's OK or not. He's sort of a savant with this. He's a space-creator, the kind of space that [general manager Koby Altman] will need in the cap."
